Businessweek points out a staggering study suggesting that the delays and hassle caused by post-9/11 TSA airport screening procedures encouraged travelers to go by car rather than the far safer choice of flying – resulting in thousands of extra road fatalities which would not have otherwise occurred, a death toll dwarfing that of the attacks on the Twin Towers:
Created in the wake of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the Transportation Security Administration has largely outlived its usefulness. These days, the TSA’s major role appears to be to make plane trips more unpleasant.

14 hours by car is my threshold for when I start thinking about flying. By the time I get to the airport (1 hour) in time for my check in and screening (2 hours), board the plane and sit for takeoff (30 minutes), fly to my connection city (1 hour), wait for my layover (minimum 2 hours), fly to my destination city (2-4 hours), get my bags (30 minutes), rent a car (30 minutes), drive to my destination (30 minutes), for a total of 10-11 hours, I’m willing to take an extra three hours riding comfortably in my car. I can also leave any time I want, and I’m not forced into someone else’s schedule at my destination. Flying is just annoying.
I have only taken two commercial flights since the start of the TSA Thug Groping Regime and if one of those two had not been a rush trip, I would have driven it instead. I only took the other trip by air because of the distance. Every other trip has been by personal transportation.
Recall that Senator Charles Schumer (D. NY) assured us that Congress should vote to federalize airline security personnel because they would then be more “professional”.

The TSA was a bad idea which has only gotten worse since its half-arsed creation.
It’s long past time to eliminate it in favor of Israel-style airport checks.
