I don’t know what my favorites are, I will have to see some of the titles that come up on the thread, but off the top of my head.

While not anywhere near a favorite, I have a strange fondness for the ‘Killer Shrews’, and while I am a little ashamed of it because it is similar to porn, but I was amazed at the actual horror in ‘House of a Thousand Corpses’, it was very unpleasant but unrelentingly focused on horror.

I did like ‘The Hills have eyes’, Jeepers Creepers, White Zombie, the original Frankenstein and Dracula (silent), many 1950s movies, Chuckie movies and that Leprechaun are fun also.

The Thing (from another world) - original version (1951) - was as good as any and better than most. The Kurt Russell version in 1982 was pretty lame in comparison, although I am a Kurt Russell fan. It’s just hard to improve on Great!

Dead Ringers is up there... twisted stuff. Just saw Existenz again after seeing it years ago when it was released. Cronenberg is right on and way ahead of the game.

Speaking of Cronenberg horror movies, The Dead Zone is pretty good.

The Exorcist
Rosemary’s Baby
Cape Fear (the remake) Some might say it’s not a classical horror movie, but the psychological terror is almost unmatched!

When I was young, staying up to watch late-night horror movies

I used to do that lots and alone. Kids now days wouldn't think of it. Most don't care for scary movies at all - too scary!

Produced by and co-starring Ken Curtis, aka Festus Haggen from Gunsmoke. He plays a villain if I recall.

“Dead of Night” (1945) is an old favorite that I never seem to tire of. But I’ll go with the umbrella of the Universal horror films, which I’ve always enjoyed, even down to the more minor b-grade entries. Something about their b&w visuals. Particularly liked “The Black Cat” (1934). Also, “Creature from the Black Lagoon” is absolute nostalgia for me. One of the only horror films that really spooked me as a kid, staying up late watching it on a late-show, was “Black Sabbath” (1964) with Karloff.

Funny, I love just about any pre-1970 horror film, but tend to loathe just about every post-1970 horror film. I think it must be because of the emphasis on mood and atmospherics of the earlier ones, versus shock and gore (which I frankly find rather tiresome and unappetizing) of the later ones.

You need to see The Thing (2011) then. It’s a prequel.

I can recommend "Dog Soldiers." It is a modern British movie, a squad of royal marines are conducting an exercise in the highlands of Scotland...Werewolves factor into things.

Pretty graphic, but not a mere gore-fest--there is a pretty good plot.
