Wow. What a bleakly safe and timid world those children would think was "normal," and how averse to risk or adventure they'd be as adults.

I had it out with my liberal sister yesterday when I got tired of her tales of the "abuses" we suffered as children. Things like riding in the back of the truck, riding in the car without seatbelts, letting us have the run of our little town without supervision, riding bikes without helmets, and most horrifying of all, letting us wake up to find that there was no heat in the house because we were out of gas once.

It irritated me mostly because we never went hungry or where handed off to strangers to be killed or molested. Our parents were poor but damn good parents.

Love it! I remember my boys riding their Big Wheels in the 1970s. And I let them do a lot of crazy stuff that today’s mothers would be hyperventilating about.

I grew up in the 1950s, when even girls got to have adventures.

Today, the kids are sealed up in vacuum bags and delivered to the day care. The closest they ever get to physical activity is some character jogging in the junk they watch on TV.

It is disgusting to see what many children experience as life. No wonder they are so unhealthy and break bones easily.

I could add to your list, but all I think of is...good times...good times. :-)

Oh, and if you thought it was good in the 70’s...the 50’s were even better, baby.

What's too bad is that the liberals who presume to dictate "safe" are incapable of live-and-let-live. If they want to put helmets on their kids and all that crap, let them do it and if you are willing to trust your kids to take the chance, let that be your prerogative. My stepdaughter was telling me that the insulting child safety seat laws had her lightweight but perfectly fine daughter in the embarassing position of having to be in one long after most of her peers were riding like grownups.

I think given their own, most people would reject all these safety laws and let their kids be kids, and the liberals know they couldn't get away with putting their kids in dorky safety helmets or harnesses while most of their peers were allowed a little more dignity. In order to function, liberalism requires quashing self-direction and individual choice, and it also requires vote fraud to win political power.

Oh well. It's sad. Go to a campground on a sunny glorious day and watch those poor damned kids having to ride their bikes with helmets, and when's the last time you saw a kid barefoot? I practically grew up barefoot. Very gauche, I know!

And today's kids are probably going to be lamenting the good ol' days when all they had to wear was helmets and they could pretty much go wherever they wanted (comparatively), while "the kids these days" (2023) are strictly regulated in all physical activity because after all, the GOVERNMENT is their health overseer.

There's nothing new under the sun.
