Doomsday Preppers are Socially Selfish (emergency mgmt. college)
www.emergencymgmt.com ^ | 11-29-12 | Valerie Lucus-McEwen

Posted on 12/02/2012 7:17:14 PM PST by dynachrome

You might wonder why someone like me, who has been in the business of encouraging disaster preparedness for a very long time, is so critical of people who are doing just that. It’s because they are being socially selfish – preparing themselves and the hell with everyone else. Instead of spending time and energy making changes that would benefit the larger community, in their very narrow focus of loyalty they are more concerned about themselves.

Emergency Managers can’t afford that kind of attitude. It is diametrically opposed to everything we do. Our job is to prepare individuals and communities and jurisdictions and regions and – ultimately – the globe for disasters, knowing we won’t always succeed. I could find statistics about how unprepared some citizens are, and then show you hundreds of active and volunteer CERT teams preparing whole communities. In major disasters (think 9-11 or the Christ Church earthquake or Superstorm Sandy), survivors for the most part WANT to help each other.

That’s true, and everyone else on the Gulf Coast has said... “oh h#ll no.”

Nobody else will EVER hand over a gun again. Not to the Police, National Guard or Marines.

I wonder how many serious survival situations Valerie Lucus-McEwen has actually personally been through.

She couldn't make it through one of my standard issue mountain man days.

Wake up before dawn, start coffee, grab a shovel, a roll of TP, and a firearm, and head to the woods...

A few minutes later, after the grinds have settled in the pan, have the first cuppa and a cigarette to start the day and wait for the sun to come up.

First 8 minutes of a standard day.

It’s like they tell you before the plane takes off: If you’re a parent with a child and the oxygen masks fall down, put yours on before you put the child’s on. When firefighters have to make a rescue, they put on all their personal protective equipment on first. You’re in no position to help anyone else if you don’t take care of yourself first. If you don’t, you’re a victim too.

If THIS is the type of attitude that emergency preparedness folks have ..... you are MUCH better off to be a ‘prepper’. The comments after her post are almost all taking her to task on her terrible post - I’m guessing she’s wishing she hadn’t said what she said. As one commenter suggested, she should resign her position ..... I think that’s a good idea.

That’s twice today I’ve been called selfish by a liberal who just wanted to take something.

The first time was over my opposition to the state buying up all the land in the township so Ann Arbor liberals from the next county over can put in hiking trails at further taxpayer expense.

If you’re a parent with a child and the oxygen masks fall down, put yours on before you put the child’s on.

It's also really good to turn to the child and say "Y'ur on your own." (Blazing Saddles preacherman voice).

It helps to motivate them to listen to instructions and pay attention. ;)

She’s been trying to defend her articles, but not doing a very good job.

No, you are supposed to help your parasite neighbors first so they can waste all the toilet paper, waste alll the ffood on their pet yappy dogs, waste the bottled water to flush the toilet, and burn all the firewood in a bonfire in the middle of the street......

Of course you are expected to save the parasites and useless trash first while ignore the law of natural selection as long as it is liberal parasites are saved and you are brought down with them...

Saw a TV interview the other day where a man was complaining that several people had electrical generators up and running while he had none. He was indignant that those people had generators even though they had purchased them in advance for just such an emergency. The feeling I got was that if he had no generator then no one should have one....have the government redistribute generators?

Selfish people project their flaws on others and parasites get the most indignant when you call them on it...
