I am certainly not going to criticize them. I live in a country ruled by a drug-addled communist.

Reminds me of some storm/fallout shelters I saw the other night. Huge round culverts to bury underground and access tunnel going down to it.

Interestingly, many areas will only need to shelter in for about 2 weeks following a nuclear incident. May even be able to come out after 1 week long enough to dump the toilet bags.

The stored can goods that preppers have will also be ok - just have to wash off the radiation dust before opening. Likewise, fruit like a banana can be washed off peeled and the inside is edible no problem.

I can’t believe that the Government hasn’t even updated civil defense to include fallout shelters since the 1980’s. We are no safer today than we were then IMHO.

Our history teacher used to teach civil defense classes and when I was in school during the 60’s he spent a week teaching our class all about survivng a nuclear incident. Unless you are within 25 miles of the blast, it is very likely you can survive, and a lot of it is necessary anyway.

About the only difference between a fallout shelter and a tornado shelter is the ventilation system. Though some of the walls and ceilings might also be reinforced a little differently.

Radios you have in a storm shelter can be wrapped in aluminum foil to protect from EMP as can other small electronics you think might be useful.
