The family of a nurse who has died in a suspected suicide just two days after transferring a hoax call about the Duchess of Cambridge have told of their sadness at her death.
Mother-of-two Jacintha Saldanha, who was working on the switchboard at the King Edward VII Hospital when 2DayFM obtained intimate details about Kate, was found dead this morning.
In a brief statement, the mother-of-two's family said: 'We as a family are deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved Jacintha.

They’ve been taken off the air. For how long? I don’t know.
The prank sounds like it was juvenile, but fairly tame by Howard Stern standards. Wouldn’t suicide for transferring a call be a little bit of an overreaction?
I guess it depends upon which agency is doing the reporting;
From the following:
Nurse Jacintha Saldanha who took a prank phone call at Duchess of Cambridge’s hospital is found dead in suspected suicide

Mrs Saldanha was found unconscious at a nurses residence close to the private hospital in Marylebone, central London, at about 9.35am this morning and despite the efforts of paramedics could not be revived. Scotland Yard said the death was not being treated as suspicious, and a source said officers were investigating whether she had taken her own life. Mental health experts cautioned against any assumptions about factors contributing to her death.

Social media...who knows what kind of threats Jacintha Saldanha received after her mistake.
i can only imagine the bureaucratic nightmare she would have gone through for a simple mistake. I doubt there would have been a lot of mercy shown her. I can only guess, of course, but she might have been that dedicated to her job and felt she let the royals down. Who knows?
She Fell on Her Sword for the Crown.
Maybe, but she is not the one who gave out information. All she did was transfer the call. Most telephone pranks by shock jocks are a lot worse than this one. While the jocks are responsible for the consequences of their actions, the consequences of this one seem to me to be far worse than could have been expected. I think the jocks should suffer some opprobrium perhaps for invading the privacy of the royals at the expense of some naive young girls, but not to the extent of bearing personal responsibility for the death of a girl who had only suffered what seems to be a very slight embarrassment. As I said, she’s not the one who gave out information. Maybe I don’t know the extent of what she would be subjected to for being fooled, but it still seems a incredible overreaction.
ok
At first, it reads like Kate made a hoax call that ended up causing a nurse to die.
The Brits take their royals entirely too seriously.
The Brits take their royals entirely too seriously.
Actually, we don’t. We treat them with considerably less reverence than Americans do with the POTUS...
But the Royals are only Royals. Our POTUS is the Messiah !!!
Surely thou jest. Have you paid any attention to any of the threads here???
This makes no sense at all.
So she was fooled into giving out info.
So what?
That’s no reason to kill yourself- even if she lost her job over it. (which is unlikely)
