Three Rabbis Sue City over Metzitzah B’peh

A lawsuit filed Thursday by Jewish organizations and three rabbis argues that a new NY City rule requiring parental consent for metzitzah b’peh, a post-circumcision ritual that involves oral suction in order to stimulate blood flow in the traumatized organ, violates the First Amendment, the NY Daily News reports.
The new rule, which take effect Oct. 21, requires mohels who perform the metzitzah b’peh to provide parents with a document they must sign, containing information about the health risks involved.
City officials say babies may contract herpes from the practice, and they cite 11 cases between 2004 and 2011, including two fatalities.
The lawsuit argues that the new rule violates the constitutional freedom of religion.
“Government cannot compel the transmission of messages that the speaker does not want to express — especially when the speaker is operating in an area of heightened First Amendment protection, such as a religious ritual,” the lawsuit argues.
City officials said they are planning to fight the suit “vigorously.”
“The city’s highest obligation is to protect its children; therefore, it is important that parents know the risks associated with the practice,” Health Commissioner Thomas Farley said.
So... NYDN or not, metzitzah b’peh is not a made-up story, but an actual religious practice. And don’t tell me next that the Jewish Press is anti-Semitic.

If the myth of circumcision improving longevity of sexual intercourse by elimination of a large area of innervated tissue had any basis in truth, condoms would be marketed for increased thickness, rather than the opposite, which is what prevails - thinner condoms.
The lies that the medical community will go on to propagate to improve revenues is staggering, and the men who’ve suffered through this mutilation have no idea of their loss. Quacks out to fleece the fools, and the latter get into denial because the realisation of their loss is harder to bear.
BTW, he contracted the viral infection from his MOTHER, who had a cold sore. SHE testified in this and the anti-circumcision nazi’s didn’t listen. They were out to get the moyle.

You are speaking of an ancient practice that led to fewer infections for infants, men and the women that they later married.
Back when the practice of filling the mohel’s mouth with wine and covering the freshly circumcised penis with that wine was first done, humanity had no knowledge of bacteria. The mohel was giving the infant an antibiotic covering over the fresh wound. We didn’t know why it worked, but it did. If the mohel performed his duties well, the child wouldn’t become infected.

Now, in my mind, there is no reason for anyone but a Jew to do this. If others want to follow the example, fine. But our ways have proven sound for three thousand years and work for US. There are many more traditions that have have proven protection for our health in the long run, in addition to this one.

Oh, please. There are condoms with NUMBING AGENTS advertized to make a man last longer.
Condoms with numbing agents are all but unknown, and nowhere near as popular as condoms that are made as thin as possible to IMPROVE sensitivity. Go to a random store and find out your odds of being able to obtain the aforementioned lidocaine-laced condoms. Also check why men avoid condoms in the first place.
The only testimony that matters is that from adults who have undergone circumcision post-sexual experience and their reporting decreasd sexual satisfaction is near unanimous, which has resulted in another lucrative surgical procedure called “reverse circumcision”.
The market speaks truths that are not manipulable, unlike subjective opinions.
Why don't you call for the stoning to death of those who disobey the "laws" of your cult as in Deutoronomy, for the sake of intellectual honesty? The Torah is "forever", after all, and doesn't it call for stoning-to-death punishments for several mundane acts? If you can disobey these, then why not the circumcision requirements? Why this selective application of the Torah? Also call for animal sacrifices while at it. Because, otherwise, you are picking and choosing tenets of your religion to your satisfaction...
