Windows 7 0x80070057 Error - anybody experience this ? Help !

First off , I should tell you that I have a Japanese HP Touchsmart desktop computer so cannot tell you exactly what all the messages I'm getting say and my wife can't translate everything either , but basically this is what has been happening every morning for the past 3 days . The computer won't boot until my wife attempts to restart windows in the last known working configuration ( takes roughly 20 minutes ) , and when she does this the message we get says it failed with another message saying there is an error # 0x80070057 . But when we turn off the message the computer then boots and works fine all day . Just for the heck of it , yesterday , I shut down the computer for a minute , turned it back on and it booted . But when the computer is off all night it won't boot in the morning until wifey goes through the aforementioned procedure . Has anybody here experienced this problem ? Apparently it has something to do with a Windows auto update that I got on Monday ( now Wednesday ) .

Your missing a critical update. I had the same thing happen to me. Go to the windows update site and update your OS. You should be good to go after that. I haven’t had any problems since.

The trouble began after the last auto-update on Monday . My wife restored to Dec. 8th so now there are 7 updates at the Windows update site . 5 appear to be security related . One a small program of some sort ( Japanese ) .

Doing the updates from the windows site worked for me. I say give it a shot. Sometimes auto updates do some funky stuff to your computer.

So first things first. What windows version V,7 or 8.
You should be able to change the language in the control panel.

Find the event viewer clear everything and go back the next time and look at the failures. before you clear the red ones upload any info that looks similar to the error your seeing.

To make life a little easier you could enable crash reports and download whocrashed www.resplendence.com

Once we know the actual full crash an modules, we should be able to figure this out.

Just for starters, clear your cache, run defrag and chkdsk. you might want to do a windows defender offline AV scan just incase.

Try this. Go to http://support.microsoft.com/fixit/, select Windows, then select one of the suggested solutions below.

We did the updates an hour ago . I shut the computer down for an hour , turned it on and it booted up OK . Now let’s see what happens in the morning . Fingers crossed .

This morning , got the blue screen of death for a few seconds then the black screen then the auto restore screen , which for some reason worked today . In other words we didn’t get the screen that give you options to retore . So still have a problem , although symptoms have changed .
