What about cancer?

It tends to recur.

Treatment is EXPENSIVE.

HELL NO! I’ve had preexisting conditions since 1958! Do I sit back on my fat ass and complain, “Oh! woes is me?!”

NO! I went to school, studied and worked hard to acquire a marketable skill, then went to work and bought my own insurance, made a living and raised three great kids!

Where is it written that, because I was successful providing for myself and family, that I’m somehow responsible for you?

I’m all in favor of the John Smith welfare system! Don’t work, can’t eat! I know, oh what about those who can’t do!? Well they need to put the “bite” on family first and me last! It amazing how motivated a truly needy person is!

The premise is idiotic. The idea that it will only be $63 dollars is absurd considering how many people will drop insurance when companies are forced to pay for pre existing conditions. It costs roughly 3800 dollars a year for me to be added to my wife’s insurance. Drop the insurance, pay the 2000 dollar fine to the IRS and I am ahead 1800 bucks a year. When I get sick, ill just go buy insurance and have my pre-existing condition covered. How many others will make that calculation and what will that do to an insurance compnany’s risk pool?

Would you pay $1/year in extra tax for eternal prosperity, universal brotherhood and eternal life?

The real number is more like $12,000 per year for a family of four. I know because that is the difference between a small group business policy in our state which covers new employees regardless of pre-existing conditions (with some limitations) and an underwritten policy which does not cover pre-existing conditions.

So the poll should read "are you OK with paying $12,000 a year to cover those with pre-existing conditions?" I suspect the response would be somewhat different when the real price is presented.

I choose not to have health insurance.
I choose to pay cash to the doctor, at the time of my visit.
I choose to buy my own prescriptions with money I have earned by working as a self-employed musician.
I choose to visit the doctor only when i am sick.
I choose to use an urgent care facility for urgent care, and pay for it myself, even if I have to spread it out over payments.
I choose to eat properly, exercise, and take care of my own health.

I may get arrested and put in prison for these choices. if that happens, I will have free medical care for the duration of my sentence, paid for by the taxpayer.

It would cost both me and the gub’mint a lot less money if they would just leave me the hell alone.

Is this $63 per family or $63 per person. If the latter, then a family of four would be coughing up $252/year.

I am pro-choice on insurance. To govt pigs; stay out of my personal affairs. If I want insurance I don’t need another faceless bureaucrat or dc lawyer making my decision. Get out of my life and get out of America.

Speaking of pre-existing conditions. I’m also in favor of requiring those who build multi-million dollar houses on the beach front to be required to self insure, and not be permitted to put the burden on US taxpayer funded flood insurance. If it was up to me there would be one and only taxpayer bailout for those stupid enough to build a house on a flood plain. The second time would be totally on their dime, and not mine.

The difference between that stupidity and health is that we typically do not choose our health afflictions, but there are some that do such as smoking. If you smoke, etc then you need to self insure for those affiliated diseases.
