"extreme as a bunch of dead kids and vulture politicians trying to consume civil liberties as a result"

It is neither satire, nor is it psychosis. What it is is hard, cold reality.

Arming teachers is just one small step of what needs to be done. Teachers are not policemen, nor soldiers, nor security experts. I am serious when I say FORTIFY SCHOOLS. I am not for kids being slaughtered wholesale, and I am not for vulture politicians trying to consume my civil rights as a result of kids being slaughtered wholesale.

If the lives of children mean anything to us, then let's guard those lives like we mean it, otherwise, we don't mean it.

Those “we the people” petitions are nothing but an activity of the
Obama data mining operation, period. They learn your name, contact info, and what interests you. Then they turn it over to dem campaigns for their grassroots op. You are kidding yourself if you think those petitions have the slightest value for the right.

“I’m VERY serious in my belief that the teachers need to be trained and carry all the time.”

I don't agree.
There is a good reason all police officers are automatically suspended from duty when they have used lethal weapons. And they are supposedly in continuous training to respond appropriately!

As a student,I watched an armed school security guard lock school doors and watch, while I and another female student were brutally beaten and kicked by six male students.
We two Caucasian female students were “blamed” for the ensuing riot...Oh the joys of forced racial integration!...but even then, there were no deaths involved.

In this Sandy Hook School massacre, having sifted through and found the actual facts from hundreds of “reports”, it appears the maniac shot his way through the entry, and in a very short time period, murdered his pre-planned targets, before killing himself.

All the school teachers who locked down their classrooms, hid the children, and/or otherwise followed emergency procedures instead of confronting the crazed shooter, saved the rest of those children by denying him additional targets.

The shooter was active for less than five minutes.
Closer to two minutes.
I am certain it felt like an eternity for all those who were there, but it was not something an armed teacher in a locked down classroom could do anything about, if his/her primary responsibility was to protect the children under his/her care.

Petition. Great ideer! There was a fellow here a few days after the election, who posted, not once or twice, but at least thrice a petition to the White House to, uh, impeach President Obama. It is being considered now, I imagine.

Great idea - they can also be the guidance counselors. Who else (aside from cops and soldiers) know first-hand, and have the experience and the guts to tell the little darlings what the right track is and what happens when they stray?

I heard there was a petition at We The People promoting a gun ban as a way to save the children

I'd say We The People haven't got a clue.

Parents should be free to pull their children out of public school and place them in the environment of their own choosing. For some, that might mean homeschooling, while for others it might mean a smaller private/parochial school. Let individual parents decide the structure and level of security that they want and are willing to pay for. To say that all schools need to have x or that no schools may permit y is nothing but a bunch of top down micromanagement.

Yes, you could do this. The National Guard would fight you tooth and nail. The schools would fight you tooth and nail. The security firms would fight you tooth and nail. And most importantly, the Democrats would fight you tooth and nail. After 9/11, I sent forward a recommendation to place armed National Guard Officers on civilian passenger planes until they could train up more Air Marshalls. The silence was deafening. The business of the Federal government is to create jobs, and they did. You will spend a long time looking for the government supervisor who wants to keep his staff at the same level and be more efficient.

I like your idea, but would refine it thus:

Allow Armed Forces officers and senior NCOs (Regular, Reserve, National Guard) to carry (on volunteer basis) on flights after completing a specific training program. MOst flights have at least one on board, and we could save the cost of all those Air Marshals.

Yes, my high school actually had a shooting team. I had a .22 LR behind the bench seat of my 72 El Camino SS most days.

The military is for breaking things and killing people. It's what they do. It's the only thing the government is half-way competent at doing.

Exactly!! The military is a blunt force instrument, not a surgical tool. The slippery slope that we would be creating would be of epic proportions. Short of posting an armed guard in every single classroom, this is merely a feel-good suggestion. If a guard is at the other end of a school, how many rounds could be fired before they arrive at the location of fire? A better option is to truly lock-down schools. There should never be a way for anyone to enter a school building without being escorted into and through a secured lobby. All fire exits should be alarmed. One way in, multiple exits for safety. In the push for grandiose public buildings, the architectural "beauty" has created buildings that cannot be secured easily - too many windows. This has got to change. Schools need to be secure and utilitarian for that purpose.

Did you have the unopened box of condoms, half a pint of Jack, and your last 3 report cards stashed back there too? ;)

Yesterday I was wondering as I read folks at Facebook posting about their anger at God and how He could let this happen, why they would think that God would see this classroom massacre any differently than He does the hundreds of abortions committed every single day in this country. His eternal perception is quite different than our limited human perception.

How about this:

Teachers train to teach for 4 or 6 or 8 years.

If they want to be teachers in our classrooms, part of their training will include how to handle a gun, like the military is trained.

Those potential teachers will also have to pass psychological tests, to insure that, they’re not the next wacko that is legally assigned a gun and a classroom full of kids or students.

When those teachers are trained and ready, they will be assigned handguns, not necessarily to be worn in class in front of their students, but easily available for when the need arises. Experienced teachers, with 5 or so years experience, will be the only ones allowed to carry concealed weapons in class and in campus.

Teachers will be required to re-qualify in the handling of handguns at least every 2 years.

Anybody that is against the second amendment and against the use of guns for self-defense purposes, will be disqualified to teach.

Teachers are mostly liberals, and as democrats, they’re part of the society that complains the loudest about how handguns are getting into the wrong hands and killing people. It’s time they became part of the solution instead of the problem.

Fortifying schools would work and that’s why it will never be done.

Liberals don’t want the problem solved because then they can’t use the issue to undermine the 2nd Amendment.

The job of the police is to protect the people. The job of the military is to fight the enemy. When you try to turn the military into the police, the people become the enemy.

I would just allow teachers and school staff to carry.

The cowards who let loose at school would not get far before they were shot dead. Most would probably not bother shooting up a school if they knew most of the adults there were armed.

Way cheaper this way.

It has to be done. It is the only solution, and it needs to be implemented quickly, because I guarantee you others are out there planning the same thing against schools right now.

I would not be surprised if this happens again next week.

As far as undermining the second amendment...to Hell with them. My rights do not come from them, and they do not have the power to take them. My rights do not exist at their whim. I will not obey or comply with a damn thing they have to say as far as giving up my rights. I have done nothing to warrant such a penalty.

I will defend my rights until I am no longer on this rock.

You get what you pay for.

If you want someone to defend children, then pay defenders.

Otherwise you are going to have dead children and a few extra bucks.
