I agree. Background checks are another feel good, feel safe policy, much like being groped by the TSA at the airport. Does nothing to make anyone safe.
If I recall correctly, background checks was one of the concessions the NRA made years ago to appease those who support Firearms Prohibition.
Like Reagan granting amnesty to 3 million illegal aliens, the appeasement has done nothing to fix the problem and now that the problem has been exacerbated by liberalism, the demands are for even greater concessions.
The NICS check is confirm/hold/deny...if not answered in 72 hrs, it’s supposed to be deemed as granted.
Michell Malkin posted a photo of a Colorado gun store with everything marked “Sold”.
Mine took 45 minutes today. What a PAIN. totally agree with your assessment.
Spent the time chatting with fellow customers (as the only chick in the shop, they were my captive audience.)
Shaw’s in Bridgeville (PA). Great service. They still have AR’s, but forget mags - they were out, at least as of today. Not much left in .556 ammo either....
May God Bless Texas!
On the contrary, it keeps politicians’ jobs safe as they pander to emotional idiots who demand that we DO SOMETHING(tm).
I went to BassPro shops in Ft Myers, FL today. The selection of handguns remaining was disappointing and they mentioned there were at least 14 sales pending background checks at that time.
which delays a purchase and may keep a gun out of the hands of someone that needs to immediately protect themselves

All the more reason to be armed before you feel the need to be armed, as well as getting practice in before you wish you had.
And don’t forget your back-up...
3 weeks? Wow. In Texas if you have a concealed carry license, that gets you past 90% of the red tape and you are in and out in 30 minutes or less. It takes longer to order a pizza.
In case anyone is interested, there is a gun show at the York Expo Center (York Fairgrounds) in York, PA this weekend. I expect that there will be liberal protesters. It should be fun.
I made my final ‘gun run’ a week before Newtown happened. Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition. AND got a new 12 guage as a birthday gift...so I’m good...for while.
I was talking to friend today that went to the gun show in Harrisburg a couple weekends ago. He said there was a five hour wait to get a background check. Of course, if you are making an individual to individual transfer of a long gun you don't need a background check.
Maybe I will go down to York this weekend to sell the last AR that I built. It is modeled on a M16A3, has a 20" government profile barrel and detachable carry handle, if anyone is interested. It is shot in, and very accurate. It only has about 500 rounds through it. I will swap my AR15 for a AR10 stripped lower with mags, plus cash.
More states need to be more like Texas. I have a carry permit, which was rather easy to get, but it doesn’t help when purchasing weapons.
About 14 years ago, I bought a weapon. The guy went to the back to do the checking background thing, and came back and said, “I can’t believe it. There is nothing on your record.” I said, “What? Did you want me to be a gangster?” He said people usually have “something”.
I have wondered about that. Are people who buy guns more likely to have a “record” of some kind than people who haven’t bought a gun? Since I bought that one, I still haven’t done anything to have a “record” unless buying one caused the govn. to put me down as suspect for terrorist behavior. Anyone with a gun bought in a store is on that list.
Actually less likely. There was a study that was talked about on Glenn Beck this morning that should really piss off liberals. Apparently Americans that own guns are far less likely to have committed or to commit any crime than non gun owners.
Georgia does the same as Texas. No waiting more than a few minutes to staple the paperwork to your receipt.
.556? Probably not a lot of demand for PTRS-41 ammo ;-)
This is the only time that it has taken more than couple of minutes. The guy at the gun shop said it happens sometimes, but there is never a reason given. He said that some one that has committed a crime with the same name as me might make the state police do a more detailed search. My name is very common ... In the top 20.
