Japan gets first dibs
According to a Japanese daily, the new device will be sold through NTT Docomo and other carriers, starting at some point in 2013. European carriers are also interested in Tizen, including Vodafone and France Telecom.
Samsung apparently hopes to build a platform around Tizen, to rival the likes of Apple and Google. High hopes to say the least, but then again we are already hearing rumours of an X phone from Motorolas skunk works, which is apparently Googles idea of an insurance policy in case Samsung tries to go it alone.
Tizen is a Linux-based operating system and it only came to being after Nokia chose to pull the plug on MeeGo. Intel and Samsung took over and the Linux Foundation is now in charge of overseeing development. In addition to smartphones, Tizen could be used in tablets, smart TVs and other devices, even appliances. It's a shot across Googles bow, but we're not sure it can sink Android.

I believe this is Samsung’s attempt to control an ecosystem without being beholden to google or anyone else. Tizen will already run android apps so there will be no shortage of apps when this launches. Samsung’s manifestation of Tizen is already skinned with their Touchwiz shell, so for the average user, they might not even notice as it will look like the other samsung offerings with touchwiz. I am far more interested in the Upcoming Ubuntu interface, the Firefox Mobile OS and especially Jolla’s Sailfish OS.
MeeGo morphs into Tizen as Intel and Samsung take charge

The problem with Tizen is, first, risk of salmonella, and second, if you get the phone too close to your head, it’ll bite your ear right off. Thanks Ernest.
