ESPN McCarron apology: Katherine Webb commentary was over the line

ESPN has issued an apology following Monday night's BCS National Championship game where the world was introduced to Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron's girlfriend, 2012 Miss Alabama USA Katherine Webb.
The problem comes from ESPN host Brent Musburger who spent a fair amount of time talking about Webb, rather than the game. (Video embedded below.)
According to E! Online, ESPN has apologized for the excessive commentary stating, "We always try to capture interesting storylines and the relationship between an Auburn grad who is Miss Alabama and the current Alabama quarterback certainly met that test. However, we apologize that the commentary in this instance went too far and Brent understands that."
Webb didn't seem too phased by Musberger, insisting she didn't think it was creepy at all. The televised attention led to a huge jump in Twitter followers for her, as well as a chance for Donald Trump to try to cash in on her instant fame, if only for a minute, when he tweeted: "We are going to ask Katherine Webb to be a judge at the Miss USA Pageant coming up in Las Vegas."

There sure is a lot of apologizing going on in the sportscasting business lately.

Well he didn’t say “look at that little monkey run” that cost another sportscaster his job. Or did it?

espn has so many problems, Brent Musberger’s performance last night doesn’t even crack the top 100 in my mind.

They have to apologize for heterosexuality in the Age of Obama.

ESPN is dumber than hell. At least Musburger wasn’t gushing over the QB himself. ESPN would have been fine with that. At least Musburger still finds women attractive. That probably offended ESPN more than anything.

I don’t even think what he said was so bad.

Figures. Musberger wanted to do anything he could to distract the viewers from ND's pathetic failure on the field. ESPN of course, being a network by and for 15 year old wannabees, couldn't really care less.

I believe that was the end of Howard Cosell's career on Monday night football.

So disgustingly PC that a sportscaster can't comment on a hot babe who happens to be Miss Alabama and is playing hide the salam’ with the Tide's QB. What's this world coming to?
To: Perdogg
It wasn't bad at all- a non issue. She loved it. It was normal. We live in a perverted world.

Is she really sleeping with him, maybe she is a virgin? She has a biblical quote on her twitter page.

I had no problem with all the attention on Webb. In fact, given the actual football game, I would have been thrilled had they just put a camera on her!

I would leave Jennifer Lawrence for her, but not Kate Upton.
