The purpose of TV programming is to change attitudes and promote agendas. The purpose is not to entertain, but the story line is designed to grab you and take you through the episode, and to relax your sense of critical thinking, so that the desired attitudes pass right through into your mind.
If you watch to analyze, and not to be entertained, you can easily discern the underlying theme of all major TV programs. I do, and thus can not watch TV with anyone else in the room.
