Apple today updated iOS to version 6.1, adding LTE capabilities to 36 additional iPhone carriers and 23 additional iPad carriers around the world, so even more iPhone 5, iPad mini and iPad with Retina display users can experience ultrafast wireless performance to browse, download and stream content at blazing fast speeds. To date, iOS users have uploaded over nine billion photos to Photo Stream, sent over 450 billion iMessages and received over four trillion notifications.
“iOS 6 is the world’s most advanced mobile operating system, and with nearly 300 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices on iOS 6 in just five months, it may be the most popular new version of an OS in history,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, in a statement. “iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads.”
This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including:

• Purchase movie tickets through Fandango with Siri (USA only)
• iTunes Match subscribers can now download individual songs from iCloud
• New button to reset the Advertising Identifier

iOS 6 features include Siri, which supports more languages, easy access to sports scores, restaurant recommendations and movie listings; Maps with Apple-designed cartography, turn-by-turn navigation and Flyover view; Facebook integration for Contacts and Calendar, with the ability to post directly from Notification Center, Siri and Facebook-enabled apps; Shared Photo Streams via iCloud; and Passbook, the simplest way to get all your passes in one place. Additional updates in iOS 6.1 include the ability to use Siri to purchase movie tickets in the US through Fandango, and iTunes Match℠ subscribers can download individual songs to their iOS devices from iCloud.
Apple’s App Store offers more than 800,000 apps to iPhone, iPad and iPod touch® users, with more than 300,000 native iPad apps. App Store customers have downloaded over 40 billion apps, and Apple has paid over seven billion dollars to its incredible developer community. Customers can choose from apps in 23 categories, including newspapers and magazines offered in Newsstand, games, business, news, sports, health & fitness and travel.
iOS 6.1 is available as a free software update today. iOS 6.1 is compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad (third and fourth generation), iPad mini, iPad 2 and iPod touch (fourth and fifth generation). Some features may not be available on all products.

Sporadic failure to connect to the access point. This a well known problem by all commercial wifi hardware vendors. Only Aruba has a workaround. Apple doesn’t have a complete solution in the pipline yet.
Okay. I haven’t experienced any problems with iOS6.01 and my iPad2. Mostly run wi-fi thru an Apple router, maybe that’s why. But also no problems on external wi-fi at stores and doctor’s offices. Just upgraded to 6.1 and still works fine. I’ll read the history on this issue.
Just got a new Mac Mini server and Time Capsule/AirPort. Ever since, using the same settings that used to work fine, we get periodic slow wireless speeds. Seems to mostly effect my iPad and our few holdover PC’s. Wonder if this will fix?
I manage a Mac network with multiple Macs and numerous iOS devices... All of the iOS devices were long ago upgraded to iOS6 and all of the devices have worked fine with every WIFI network they’ve encountered.
Many of my co-workers and friends and family have iOS devices, none have ever had a problem on WIFI. All are upgraded to iOS6.
Do a search in the Apply community forums for “ios wifi”. Lots of issues.
I don't need to. It's a small issue that effects a very small number. Take your iPhone to the Apple store and have them swap it out... Problem solved. The issue is not in iOS 6. Most who had a problem got rid of it with a reinstall. other issues were handled a month and a half ago with the release of iOS 6.02. Your assumption that any iOS 6 upgrade will have a problem is completely wrong. You obviously don't use it.
You’re right I don’t use it - I support wifi. When you have a roomfull of kids and half the ipads don’t work reliably it is a crippling problem. Individual users who are somewhat literate can deal with it- providers (like schools) can’t.
Look Ford4000, I was just at the iWorld/MacWorld expo at the Moscone Center in San Francisco today where literally HUNDREDS of iPads and iPhones were connected to a SINGLE public WIFI network without a problem... Give it a rest. There IS NO WIFI PROBLEM. You are spreading FUD.
Do you think Apple would let that happen at MacWorld? Give me a break.
The problems can be dealt with by those who are mac-literate but not by greenhorns. My example was not hypothetical and it happened recently. Also, if you were paying attention, I said Aruba had a developed a workaround so perhaps that was what was what MacWorld was using.
The network was the Moscone Center’s Public Network... Apple had no presence there... None, Nada, Zip. This was IDG Macworld Magazine’s show. Give it a rest. You haven’t a clue what you are talking about except the overwhelming urge to spread ignorant FUD! There IS NO PROBLEM. NO WORKAROUND REQUIRED.
In addition, what part of “I manage a Mac network with numerous iOS devices” in my original post did you fail to comprehend??? I do this for part of my living. YOU DO NOT. Stop spreading FUD about something you admit you do not use!

No, I’m a professional in the industry . . . Cross platform. You are the one who does NOT use iOS. I do and I support people who do. Not you. Ergo, you are spreading both hearsay and therefor FUD.

Enjoy your meeting. I am telling you that anecdotes of a few problems DO NOT make a universal problem when there are 300,000,000 iOS devices out there. Over 70% of the iOS6 capable devices have been updated to iOS6 within two months of its release. These devices include all iPhones from the 3Gs onward, inclusive, the iPad 2, 3, 4 and Mini, and the last three generations of iPod touches. If the problem were so debilitating, it would be all over the place! It simply is not.
It was and is FUD being spread by the competition based on a very few people with legitimate problems with their upgrades that were handled by either exchanging their defective hardware or reinstalling the upgrade. The VAST majority of iOS6 upgrades had absolutely no issues at all with WIFI on upgrading their devices.
Do you really think the mainstream media would NOT have been all over this had there been any truth to it at all? How about class action law suits??? The litigious antiApple crowd sued Apple over what was called “cracks” in the Mac Cube’s case that were casting lines, and also sued Apple when their iPhone’s developed scratches from the key chains in their pockets! No law suits here. . . ergo, not a big problem.
