SONY is set to unveil its new PlayStation on February 20 — with film-quality graphics and ten times the processing power of the PS3.

Leaks suggest the console, tipped to be named either PlayStation 4 or Orbis and cost around £300, will feature EIGHT computer chips in its electronic “brain”.

That will make it more powerful than a top-end PC and dwarf the capacity of its 70 million-selling PlayStation 3 predecessor.

Its ultra-HD quality graphics will be four times as detailed as the PS3’s standard HD. There will also be 3D capability — with further rumours suggesting a new controller, possibly with a built-in touchscreen display.

Let Microsoft write the OS , it’ll run like it’s on an 8088 machine..

Now if only they had a Halo type of game to launch with it.

Basically the only reason why I keep buying the latest Xbox is purely based upon the Halo franchise.

Otherwise I’ll continue to pass on the PS, I already have Bluray, I’m not interested in 3D movies or gaming.

And frankly PS just doesn’t quite have the games I’m into. They have some, but those same games are also on the 360.

but will they continue to rip people off with their so-called “limited backwards compatibility” which means that you can’t play ps2 games on them.

The day it is released, it starts losing ground to PC’s.

I play Call of Duty on my laptop using my TV. The laptop has multiple the power of my desktop(Athlon 3800, ATI 3670).

Now if I can just learn how to use a controller, I am set.

That would still make the OS superior to what Sony could/would write, or what Apple could/would write.

;)

Yep. I have two of them, one on each TV. I'm not even much of a gamer. I use them for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Youtube, Blu-Rays, and everything else but it seems playing games.

I can't say enough good things about the PS3. Sadly, both mine are working just fine so I'll have to wait a bit for the new ones.

Sony will screw the pooch, as they did with the PS3 — they could have owned the gaming world, but didn’t use the long delayed release of the PS3 to develop virtual machines for backward compatibility, and for that matter to build a useful development environment for game writers. Then, to really ream themselves and their customers, they used an update to remove the customer’s ability to “Install other OS”, basically ending the PS3’s existence as a Linux platform.
