Reagan & Iran/Contra (and Cocaine)? Selective Memory? (Vanity)
Question posed to me | 2-4-2013 | Me

Posted on 02/04/2013 10:43:25 AM PST by TheBattman

After posting a notable and excellent Reagan quote, one of my Facebook "friends" commented about selective memory of those who lift Reagan up, and specifically mentioned his and his administration's role in the "Iran-Contra" mess.

TOPICS: Conspiracy; History
KEYWORDS: contra; iran; nicaragua; reagan
I remember Reagan taking to the airwaves to admit transferring arms to Iran, but I really didn't remember much about the bigger picture, other than what the media put out. I also was a "child" at the time.

So - in the absence of having a local library handy, I try searching online for information - and essentially every "source" I can find has obvious Leftist bend (or worse). I have tried a variety of search terms, and have had no more success.

Anyone know of a repository or source for some less-biased information/history?

Research Oliver North. He is the living expert on the affair and I believe he has written extensively about it.

I cannot be sure even he would reveal the most clandestine specifics. But there was a national security benefit to the CIA operation. It was one of those dirty things that secret heroes take on that we’d rather not have to think about in order to keep us safe.

I don’t know much about it myself so I won’t speculate.

Does your "friend" support Obammy?

How can anyone muster anger over "Iran/Contra" and give the Bamster a pass on the gun running to narcoterrorists in Fast & Furious (which has killed thousands) and lied to Congress about it?

It's either selective outrage or being myopic and not able observe corruption in the present (too close).

Contrary to the Leftist media, Neither Ronald Reagan nor George Bush was involved in Drug Dealing. (Some spooks of the time like Barry Seal, might have been)

The Contra’s were anti-Commie freedom fighters as far as I was concerned. I felt traitors in Congress passed the Bolen Amendment. And I still feel that Ollie North and some of his friends were hero’s.

I went eyeball to eyeball to the surrogates of the Sandanista Commies in NM at the time. I have no illusion what they were. That was my first exposure to Liberation Theology and the other leftist clap trap they use.

Obozo is just a racist extension of what they did then. I feel no different about him than them.

Lots of information online. Eugene Hasenfuss. Richard Secord. Ties to Clinton through the Mena Airport in Arkansas.

I know about the Clinton/Mena Airport (and other locations) connection to this - There’s been lots of attention focused on several high-profile stories that are “collateral damage” to that mess.

But other info - Someone needs to tell the primary/popular search engines, as most of the resulting search results through them is what I can only describe is extremely Leftist...

Thank you for those names - will try to connect those dots.

Actually, this friend (someone I went to college with and tends slightly more right than left on most things, and who was/is NOT an Obama supporter. He just tends to throw molotov cocktails at pretty much everything...

I applaud Reagan for funneling money to the Contras to fight the communists. Keep in mind Democrats of the day were firmly behind the Sandinistas, frustrating Reagan at every turn when he wanted to arm the Contras to keep the country from becomming communist.

Maybe so... but at the same time, playing both sides of the Iran/Iraq war.....?

Of course, maybe its just me - but I have a hard time deciding which is worse - Communism or a brutal dictatorship....
