Word For The Day, February 5, 2013
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
exordium [ig-zawr-dee-uhm, ik-sawr-]
1. the beginning of anything.
2. the introductory part of an oration, treatise, etc.
[152535; < Latin exōrdium, equivalent to ex- ex-1 + ōrd ( īrī ) to begin + -ium -ium]
It’s the exordium of the rest of your life.
The Lyin’ King’s first term was merely the exordium of the Death of Our Republic. (Please G-d, I hope not!)
The exordium of today’s class brought to you by SoothingDave.
We need to exordalldium out of the White House and Senate!
Today we’re featuring some AM Gold I heard in the grocery store the other day.
Not familiar with it but have seen it on songpop.
Love the hairy guy open shirt look.
How I Met Your Mother yesterday was making fun of 90s grunge videos.
And we thought dodge ball was bad for the kids.
Exordium is an invisible substance that infects the eyes and brains of many well educated but unintelligent people.
No better example may be found than when it comes various art forms...writing, sculpture, painting, etc.
A drunk can stand on a step ladder and dribble paint from a can on a canvas on the floor and in it will be found great talent by eyes and brains infected with Exordium.
In hushed tones such dribblings will declared against all common sense to be “extraordinary!”.
Some rusted scrap metal welded into a jumbled mass will be declared “whimsical, primitive” but above all “extraordinary!” by the exordium stricken.
All this from the big book of Ordinary Extra Stuff soon to be written.
Did they wrap the rope around their hands? How senseless. I am amazed California let them play tug of WAR to begin with.
Some happy horse $h!t that xsbaby said they’re doing at her school bc of Newtown is they’re supposed to do “random acts of kindness” and then write what it was and put in a basket. Yesterday she said she wanted to write that her act of kindness was not punching the lights out of the penguin fan (that goes to her school) that was attempting to heckle her about Sundays game!
Hey, it’s not every day that Kunitz scores 4 goals. Hasn’t happened to a Penguin since Jagr in 2000.
You’ll notice, however that I did not bring it up.
It’s private and not religious. She’s learning disabled and cannot attend a catholic school bc they do not have sufficient support for her. But in their defense, as puerile as the exercise is, it’s done anonymously. they aren’t to put their names on it and the basket is somewhere where you can just go and drop the note in.
xshub told me that he’s “taking his talents to South Beach,” tomorrow. he has a conference ; ) I feel quite sure that Neo will get the reference....
Sounds good. Learning disabled or not, she has her head on straight and stands up for herself. I love it. My two nephews were learning disabled and they both graduated college and have great jobs. One from RIT. The schools taught them good habits and they excelled on their own in college.
I have made some progress with my 5th grader, since Christmas I have cut back the help I give him and he will finish his homework in record time. I hope these habits will give him the boost he will need in middle school next year.
they are so pathetic, it’s not even painful to me. everything the announcers said on the nationally televised game (and admittedly Milbury, emrick et al want to fellate Crosby on any given day) was true.
He can say hello to LeBron for me :)
We are hearing this terrible rumor that after his contract ends he might come back.
Now for one great accordion exordium....
73 and rain is supposed to be on the way-it that materializes, I’ll be able to scatter some seeds for baby salad greens earlier than usual-I’m tired of the store bought not-very-fresh ones...
The exordium of this year
So far is just like the last-
The economy is in wreckage
And we’re going nowhere fast
With so few jobs to be had
And gas at so high a rate
King Obama smiles and waves
And says we’re doing great
Either he is just delusional
Or considers us serfs and such
Whatever it is we can’t afford
Someone detached and out of touch
A neighbor I came across while hiking this morning remarked that a life with steady work seemed like a dream these days. A bit later I was in the general store and started humming something vaguely familiar, but driving home, I was able to remember a verse-
“Oh, life could be a dream
If I could take you up in paradise up above
If you would tell me I’m the only one that you love
Life could be a dream sweetheart
Oh, life could be a dream
If only all my precious plans would come true
If you would let me spend my whole life loving you
Life could be a dream sweetheart”
I remember my cousins and I singing that song with the radio, as little kids. I guess my neighbor’s comment about a dream life must have dredged it up-that is weird...
Multiple stab victims at Raven’s victory parade. Where exactly was Ray Lewis?
Your baby has a fine sense of humor, indeed.
Those bumper stickers saying practice random acts of kindness were always given away or sold at every class or seminar for caseworkers and casemanagers I ever attended. I never got one because I thought they were silly, and I didn’t want anyone thinking I was a clueless liberal...
