You should be able to set default font, size and text color in the control panel.

And when you set the default font and color, select that the website cannot override your default selection.

1. Clean your eyeglasses.
2. Try adjusting brightness and contrast.
3. Ask someone with good eyes to check your monitor.
4. If your friend from 3 says it's OK, get your eyes checked for glaucoma.

Also have your eyes checked for cataracts. The graying out of newsprint, etc., is one of the symptoms.

You can hold down CTRL on the left and move your center wheel to make your font bigger if that helps.

The center wheel is on your mouse.

Here is what the first letter of post #1 looks like on my monitor magnified:

The text is nominally black. However, only the cross-bar in the H is really black (rgb(0, 0, 0)). The rest of the letter has been fudged by anti-aliasing algorithms in order to achieve a smoother screen appearance. E.g., the left edge is dark-red (rgb(101, 0, 0)), and the right edge is a dark blue (rgb(0, 53, 154)).

Speaking of cataracts, 4 years ago, I had this condition in both eyes. My natural lenses were removed
and replaced with soft acrylic(plastic) lenses.

Before, my vision was about 20/250 in each eye and I wore glasses full time. Since the procedure, I have 20/20 in my left eye and 20/25 in the right eye. NOW I only wear glasses for reading and computer viewing.

You might also want to get your blood sugar checked. High blood sugar (from type 2 diabetes) can cause vision issues.

Yes, lens implants have come a long way. I had a medical mistake a couple of decades ago (given a steroid to use in my eyes to reduce swelling from an eye infection) and the steroid (which was in wide use at the time) caused cataracts in both eyes. I had my lens implants done in the mid-nineties and need to use glasses. My cousin just had both eyes done and doesn't need glasses much as now the implants are created to give near AND far vision. Very lucky people with the new lens implants!
