Nicholas DiMarzio, the Catholic bishop of the diocese of Brooklyn, N.Y., says that in his zealous support for abortion, President Barack Obama has used his position not to help mothers and children in difficult circumstances but instead has been an advocate for that which is shameful and criminal in the eyes of Almighty God.
In his column for the diocesan newspaper The Tablet, entitled Deeper Into the Culture of Death, Bishop DiMarzio praises Abraham Lincoln, the abolition of slavery, and notes how far the nation has come in electing Obama as president. DiMarzio also notes the 40th anniversary of the Supreme Courts Roe v. Wade decision, which legalized abortion through all nine months of pregnancy and how Obama has promoted that decision.
The bishop also discusses the Obamacare mandate that requires nearly all health care plans to offer contraceptives, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs without co-pays, arguing that these rules imposed on our Nation would force Catholic institutions to provide employees with medical procedures and services we believe to be in defiance of the will of God.

Well don’t stop with just abortion, Bishop...; )
Where are the rest of you???
Waiting....
Crickets chirping...
notes how far the nation has come in electing Obama as president.
While I agree that 0 is about as far from the founding fathers as one can get, I suspect the Bishop thinks this is a good thing, whereas those of us with conservative ideals think it is an abomination.
I disagree. I have yet to hear any significant member of the Catholic hierarchy speak in favor of abortion, and plenty have spoken against it. But this is just one item in an otherwise leftist agenda endorsed by the church hierarchy.
As far as the rank and file Catholics go, most studies indicated that they voted for 0bama in about the same ratio as the general population roughly 51% to 49%. So no great split from them based on this. In fact from what I've seen abortion is the most important political issue for a small shrill belligerent loudmouthed minority of the population, even among Catholics, and the way Catholics voted in the last election supports this hypothesis.
