America is up to their eyebrows in debt and fixing to get worse. Well, if this were a normal American family, they would sell off some of the possessions they think could get their finances back on firm ground. Government doesn't seem to work that way. They just print more money (inflationary) or borrow money from other countries (exploding the debt). Not good.
America seems to have no appetite for tightening their fiscal belts either so perhaps it is time to sell off a few assets. Alaska might be a good choice but it is a tough sell because it is so dang cold. Unless another country wanted to own it just for the mineral rights, it wouldn't get much on the open market. Texas is another state with a great economy and would be highly appealing but you simply can't buy Texas - they wouldn't stand for it.
So I suggest we sell California to the Chinese in return for the forgiveness of all our financial debts and a bonus payment to help retire some other outstanding debts.
It has rich farmland that the Chinese would surely love to have. There are vineyards to make them wine exporters. There is great entertainment and media conglomerates based in California that the Chinese would find highly attractive to own.
But California is also awash in their own debts so the U.S. should be happy to unload that burden. California is turning into Mexico Norte anyway so now all those illegals will be *their* problem. Besides, it will be fun watching the Chinese nationalize Hollywood and the porn industry.
Sure, it will be a little painful at first, but America will adjust. And remember that missile technology Clinton sold the Chinese so they could aim nukes that could reach California? Well, now the Chinese would be nuking themselves so selling Cali to the Chinese also advances world peace and reduces the global nuclear threat.
Maybe if the Chinese drive a hard bargain, we might have to sell them Oregon too but that's where we draw the line, Beijing - take it or leave it.
They’d biuld a wall so fast it would make your head spin!
Sell California: OK
But not the mineral rights: lots to frack there.
After I help get my family members out of there.. sell away!
In the newly renamed city of Sang Frang Cizh Cong, will there be an “AmericaTown?”
Nobody would buy California. But I would not put it past Obama to trade Hawaii to China, (they do want that state) and give Alaska to Russia.
In fact, call me crazy, but I expect it.
Let's slip Maryland into the deal and see if the Chinese notice.
This is idiotic, because politicians would have an orgasm over it. They would sell their mothers souls to have access to that much clean balance sheet for debt re-creation...
Yes but it would be to keep people from escaping into mexico.
No way.
California was/could be again the “Land of Milk and Honey” but not for liberal Californians and illegal aliens.
Get rid of those two massive, dependent classes of people, there would be a new gold of rush of sorts in mineral development, etc.
We can send the liberals to Canada and the illegals back to whence they came and everything would be copacetic. Yeah, I know it’s not going to happen, but it was a nice thought anyways.
Frankly, I expect him to try to give Texas back to Mexico. As a matter of fact, I hope he tries.

No self-respecting Californian would live in “AmericaTown”. They’ve spent the last 40 years perfecting their hatred of all things American.
So you guys want to sell Free Republic to the Chinese?
doesn't Japan own most of Hawaii?
Pay me and I’ll think about it. No way will I pay you.
NO WAY! The chinese would cut down the Sequoias before I get to see them!
Selling property for cash doesn’t work in Monopoly and won’t work in real life either.
They need to sell CA to Texas!
What would it cost us for the chinese to TAKE DC,Detroit and Chicago?
