I hope it’s something simple and easy to treat. We’re still trying to get weight off the collie so he can be treated for heartworms. That is going to be ridiculously expensive but he’s a good dog. Most of the time.
I just took her outside as the snow started for one last outdoor chance to do her biz. She did but then wandered into the snow and sat down confused and shaking like a leaf. No idea at all what was happening. I had to carry her in. She doesn’t even know to follow me for her treats anymore. She seems to have lots of periods of confusion. Can’t hear, sight is limited. I found a way to get more nutrition into her by mixing canned food with her dry. She can still smell and respond to it. She learned that pretty quick. Bad thing is she is having diarrhea a lot now.
When my mother faded, I moved her into our home and took care of her for 2 years till she died in hospice right here at home. It’s a tough job, if you can’t do it it’s kinder to place them. If you visit the nursing home often the staff tends to be really nice to your loved one. At least that is the case here. Some people cannot get along with family well enough to care for them. Sad but true.

If it were going to be something easy we could have found the solution already. We’ve been treating this dog since October. This is a new vet who has hospitalized him.
Just after the 6 inches of snow In the driveway apron had been cleared, a snowplow went by and filled it up again, whereupon I innerdigitated at the driver of the vehicle…
LOL. A+++ We have a special problem with our usual snowplow driver....our driveway is on a corner...the end is rounded and the plows like to leave about 3 feet of the crud all the way around it. ONE year we had a plow driver who knew we were EMS and kept us cleared....the rest...forgettaboutit. They plow us in regularly. It’s twice as wide and higher than any other driveway on our street. Before we got a snow blower, I had to call the DPW and complain after the first heavy snow of each year. It usually got results.

God bless you for that-it was the right think to do, I think. And anyone who is nasty to family should search their soul and be reminded that they can be in a far worse place-homes are not “home”.
If it is the disabled person’s choice to go elsewhere than with family, that is fine-I’ve had clients who did that, but they didn’t live very long away from loved ones-and some families are not people you would want to live with, either. I love my family, and we get along fine, but if I became severely disabled, I’m out of this life the first chance I get.

Kitty boy would go to the water or the food bowl and sit down, looking around like he didn’t know why he was there, but if I dabbled my fingers in the water, or tappd the food dish, he would remember, and eat or drink a bit-then he’d head for his favorite spot in the sun.
A guy came by while I was putting out veggie and fruit scraps for the deer-he said my neighbor told him I had a table saw for sale. Long story short, he bought it for a pretty fair price, and I put the cash in my vehicle fund (a laquered Japanese box in a hiding place I built and only I know of).
I was just praying for a way to get some money to put by so I can get a used truck soon, and every tiny bit helps whn you have to pay cash-I’ve always thought my guardian angel spends too much time in bars because she/he doesn’t pay enough attention, but ever so often, he/she throws a little luck my way...

Snow is beautiful-but that said, I hope y’all have all you need to hunker down for the duration...
It will be over tomorrow night. I’m not worried. By Sunday morning we will be out and about.
Heavy snow, heavy winds . I don’t know how deep it is out there yet, but it’s blowing everywhere.
It means “stick your fat finger into” as in, “Why did you interdigitate that chocolate-covered bonbon?” and the answer would be, “To see if the filling is raspberry or orange.” (I had a friend whose cousin used to select a chocolate out of an assortment, stick her finger into the bottom of it, and put it back in the box if she didn’t like the filling.)
Sometimes things get overlooked so it’s good to have new eyes examine him.
Sad to say, we have the answer and it is not good. We put our beautiful dog down this afternoon, even though all of his tests looked promising, and X-rays and ultra sounds did not show an obvious problem. But, he could not hold his food down. The vet did a post mortem and found that he had Pancreatic Cancer. The pancreas was enlarged and hard and pressing on the pilorus sphincter which did not allow his food to pass easily into his bowel. When his stomach got too full, he’d throw it up. He wasn’t getting the nourishment he needed and he was losing weight rapidly. He’d lost 15 lbs since November. He looked so much better after he died — all the tension was gon \e from his body and he was just asleep. I breaks my heart, but it was the right thing to do since it was obvious that he was suffering. I just didn’t expect this today.
