I’m torn on the Grammys tonight.

Halestorm, a hard rock band with a great singer who did over 230 live dates in the last year, WELL, won one. And deserved to. But Iron Maiden, lost to them.

Dilemma!

It’s hard to separate the music we hear from the emotional times of our lives.

But no doubt the greatest music we know is still great, even after years, or even after a second, it is something that endures.

I like this one more:

Original version... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEzyrpfrPEI

Revised version... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Z9nl3T31wI

I play the guitar section of it, but have yet to find enough people that play even a few of the other instruments to make it as good as these two performances.

Want to know what is wrong with the youth and people of America, look at the people attending the grammys who are worshiped and idolized

I am a Maiden fan going back to 83 and they have to be technically one of the greatest rock acts to ever tour. And the actual songs I love as well.

I recently discovered Halestorm. Not as ‘metal’, but solid hard rock. Reading up on them they are an old school ethos act that seems to do because they love it. And I love what they do too.

The great thing is that Maiden has already made it’s mark and does not need a trophy. Everyone in Rock, band or fan, knows they are one of the best ever. But it’s nice to se an act like Halestorm with genuine talent get one against a sea of Rap and modern image pop.

You would need a full orchestra for it to sound like Mason Williams sets.

You would need a full orchestra for it to sound like Mason Williams sets.

I dunno, cello or bass-guitar for the backbeat, add violin with sax or french horn if no trombone then would make up the midtones, and a second guitar for backup on the riffs would be a good basic grouping. Add in some amps and some echo delays to make it sound like more than a single of each instrument was playing, and if you want to get even fancier add in a third guitar for some arpeggio and flamenco flourishes and I could pull it off I feel.

One guitar can only get you so far, a la one-half of 'Dueling Banjos' or the first part of 'Stairway to Heavon'. Or "The Town of El Paso" for the southerners out there.

This is what conservative talk show host Mike Gallagher put on his Facebook page tonight. Don’t know if you can see the picture or not:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150265692044943&set=a.289133984942.42757.23489729942&type=1&theater

So I happened to watch a few minutes of the Grammys tonight — below is a pic of what singer Chris Brown did to his girlfriend, Rihanna, three years ago. Tonight he sits there at an awards show, receiving adulation and more fame. Evidently, she has taken him back - which is pitiful - but why would anyone even talk to a creep who beats up a woman with his fists? Perfect example of our cesspool culture... - Mike

And that was King Crimson after Greg Lake had left the band to join Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer. A lot of people will say that the era of soloist grandstanding was excessive but I say, if you’ve got it, flaunt it and that’s not something many in the music business can do today because they ain’t got it, never did and never will.

If you play it well enough, people forget about background
and overdubs

I especially like the horn section on Mason’s rendition.
