Word For The Day, Monday, 2/11/13
In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
cacophony; noun
1. harsh discordance of sound; dissonance: a cacophony of hoots, cackles, and wails. 2. a discordant and meaningless mixture of sounds: the cacophony produced by city traffic at midday. 3. Music. frequent use of discords of a harshness and relationship difficult to understand.
Etymology: 1650s, from Gk. kakophonia, from kakophonos "harsh sounding," from kakos "bad, evil" (see caco-) + phone "voice" (see fame). Related: Cacophonous.
Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the Word for the Day in a sentence.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day.
The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....
no, i know who the nasty ones are, bc they are known by their fruits/posts. i would never have thought you to be nasty and glad to hear you aren’t : )
LMAO!!!
Thank you for saying that! I swear you would have thought the NE was getting 5 feet of snow instead of 36 inches. Even a transplant totally unused to more than a few inches of snow handled the snowfall we got once at 36 inches. I don’t recall any declaration of emergency or need for Federal help - it’s not like they never get snow in that area and don’t know what to do.
I see chuck hagel was a D student who attended 5 different universities before he graduated. and they trashed Sarah Palin. Obama sure picks them, doesn’t he? Hope hagel goes down like rice.
SU hockey’s Friday PM game was cancelled, but they played Saturday’s game with no problem.
I see the retiring Pope has replaced the storm for the MSM....they are not even talking about 0’s speech tomorrow. All good.
Wow. Speechless.
Is that a tactical knife she’s using to cut the cake?
Sounds like it could be an abscessed tooth. DH has one. Good luck, I have suffered like that.
Friday night the snow was heavy and coming down fast. By Saturday morning, it was pretty much over. Snow was lighter and melted on the roads instantly. Not sure about Syracuse as they are much closer to the Great Lakes and get more lake effect snow.
looks like it doesn’t it? LOL
Whose first name happens to be Peter.
Haha - good - how long before they come up with some horrible reason for his retirement? You know they will
I’m sure if you got 36 inches of snow that there was a declaration of emergency.
There were a bunch of idiot FReepers around Friday night saying how the governor of Mass. was like Stalin for ordering people off of the roads.
Saturday, you have stories about people being stranded in their cars on the Long Island Expressway.
i see you lost no time donning your's.... LOL!
LOL!
Ignore the cacophony coming from Obama when he responds to the question about BXVI’s resignation — here’s what he really thinks:
“Uhhh, I don’t know why in the world he would do that? I mean, you’re there for life, infallibility & all that - who wouldn’t want to be the Pope! And then there are all those neat-looking Swiss Guards ”
