NEW YORK, - A New York firm that is the world's largest fortune-cookie maker says it has removed romantic messages from its treats after parents complained.
"Some parents sent us emails. They said they didn't want their kids reading them," said Derrick Wong, a vice president at Wonton Food. "Different people have a different perspective."
The fortunes that have been abolished included, "One who admires you greatly is hidden before your eyes" and "The evening promises romantic interest," the New York Post reported Sunday.
Company officials said that if they get more than two or three complaints about a fortune, they will stop using them.
The Post said the messages have been replaced with "You make everyday special" and "No one on Earth is as beautiful as you."
Fortune-cookie experts, such Jennifer 8. Lee, author of "The Fortune Cookie Chronicles," said it's best to keep messages bland.
The company products 5 million cookies every day from plants in New York, Houston and Texas, the Post said.
I once had a fortune cookie with no message. The paper inside was blank. Kind of creepy.
Don'cha' jes' LOVE how SOME parents, gays, Americans, people, etc. ... cause SO much anguish that the tide is turned, history abolished and morality re-defined?
Did SOME parents give their little Janey a Barbie doll?
Someone once told us that you can add the words “in bed” to the end of any fortune cookie fortune and it still makes sense and is often pretty funny. We told my wife’s boss and he got such a kick out of it that he started eating at Chinese restaurants three times a week just to do this with the fortune.
if you think it is inappropriate for a kid, then no problem with complaining
I was always told of the unwritten language of every fortune cookie. It requires that you read the fortune out loud, and no matter what it says, you end by adding the phrase “between the sheets.”
Maybe I won’t be able to do that anymore.
Two fortunes I need to comment on:
1 - BEWARE OF COOKIES BEARING FORTUNES
(That is my all time favorite one.) And
2 - EVERYTHING WILL SOON COME YOUR WAY
Got this during an especially prolonged period of one bad thing after another. At the time, I think everything already had...

Indeed you don’t see “you will inherit a great fortune”.
“You will die in a week.” “You will get a divorce because you found your spouse is cheating on you.” FORTUNE cookies or just vague sayings?
Wiki.: “A “fortune” is a piece of paper with words of wisdom or a vague prophecy. The message inside may also include a Chinese phrase with translation or a list of lucky numbers used by some as lottery numbers, some of which have become actual winner numbers.
Fortune cookies are often served as a dessert in Chinese restaurants in the United States and some other countries, but are absent in China. The exact provenance of fortune cookies is unclear, though various immigrant groups in California claim to have popularized them in the early 20th century, basing their recipe on a traditional Japanese cracker. Fortune cookies have been summarized as being “introduced by the Japanese, popularized by the Chinese, but ultimately ... consumed by Americans...There is a common joke in the United States involving fortune cookies that involves appending “between the sheets” or “[except] in bed” to the end of the fortune, usually creating a sexual innuendo or other bizarre messages
“You make everyday special” and “No one on Earth is as beautiful as you.”
Oh, yeah, keep with the self-esteem blather. Why not just put a sports participation trophy in each cookie?
Years ago in Washington State we had a “sort of” itinerant man who helped us out from time to time. He wasn’t exactly homeless, but close to it.
After a Saturday of chores we took him to dinner at a local Chinese restaurant. His fortune cookie had nofortune, so we asked for a replacement. It was empty too.
He was seriously bummed out about it.
Who cares about the worthless fortune anyway??
As long as they don’t do away with the lucky lotto numbers!!!
“Fortune Cookie Leads to Record Number of Powerball Winners”
"No one on Earth is as beautiful as you. in bed.
Someone had to do it! :D
