Birthday shoutout: Sarah Palin

Sarah Palin turns 49 years old today, still relatively young and poised for the third act of her public life, whatever she chooses for that to be. Act I: Ambitious young woman rises through the ranks in local Alaskan politics to become the state's youngest governor (and first female governor). Picked in 2008 as the unconvential running mate for Republican John McCain's presidential bid. Her presence on the ticket certainly didn't help McCain, but her image as a folksy soccer mom and an arch-conservative firebrand energizes her own base and she becomes a Tea Party icon. Act II: After McCain's loss in 2008, Palin returns to Alaska and to her job as governor, but her heart isn't in it. Having gotten a taste of the national stage, the idea of running the nation's most remote state no longer excites her. She resigns from that position before her term ends and announces that she has bigger fish to fry. She writes a couple of books, does a couple of reality TV shows, and makes vast sums of money for speeches and TV appearances promoting the Tea Party and conservative causes. She endorses candidates across the country but shows little interest in re-entering the world of politics herself. So now, on her 49th birthday, we await her third act. Will she be content to stay in her current lucrative role of trying to influence those who are actually in power? Or will she at some point - perhaps in 2016 - feel the itch to return to politics and chase after the power herself? The only thing that seems certain at this point is that she has no desire to leave the public eye.

She would need to become fully educated on the details and the intricacies of foreign affairs, She would need to become more cultured and sophisticated

Like Obama and Biden? /s

Thank you for the kind words. Yes, I took a little flak on that thread; but there were several who owned to regretting some things they had posted and resolving to do better. That is a good thing.

Yes, The Bolsheviks knew then and know now how to conquer us without firing a shot.

You are spot on regarding the destructive nature of fornication and adultery, both of which seem to have many fans on this once great board.

Don’t forget here on FR she had her haters!

I know. I was accused of being one of them.

Um, show me again where the Left failed?

They succeeded beyond their imaginings. Palin has been marginalized. The sheep voters, the FSA, they will never see anything but Tina Fey and the porn videos.

They win some battles (too many battles), but they will always, ALWAYS lose the war.

I think that in order to be more appealing to more voters, she needs to dial it back on the backwoods colloquialisms

Absolutely! It was okay back in 1999/2000 with Bush vs Gore. At the time we were headed for a recession but as far as the American people were concerned it was just a "hard landing" (at least that was how the Clinton WH sold it) but is was not something we couldn't recover from. As far as the American people were concerned, it wasn't really a big deal. Just part of the cycle.

So, you had a VP who uses these lawyer words when he talks about even the most simple issues who served under a President who picked apart the word "is". When you use long 20+ words to talk about the simple issues like Al Gore, you begin to sound like a manipulative liar. Americans were tired of that crap and wanted a President more like themselves. Someone they would invite to a cook-out and be able to talk to and not be talked down to like Al Gore. The nation was really not facing major issues back then mostly because the republicans controlled Congress and Clinton was forced to comply to the will of the people.

That and his running as a conservative was why they chose Bush. (Unfortunately, he fundamentally transformed himself during the second term).

In 2008, Americans were looking for just what you described. We needed more than a war hawk. We needed an economic genius to turn around the economy that Pelosi and Reid gave us after winning control of Congress in 2006. And George Bush was not with clean hands either. It wasn't his conservatism that help hurt this economy - it was his fundamentally transformed policies that helped Pelosi/Reid destroy this economy so that that can use the destruction to get their party back in the WH.

As you said, Americans were looking for somebody who can speak with sophistication because the nation was in a much worse situation than it was 8 years prior. They were no longer looking for the guy that could speak like them at the weekend cook-out.

It was when I mentioned that Palin should dial it back on the backwoods colloquialisms and stop with the "by-gollys" that I was called a Palin basher.

I know Sarah Palin has it in her to save this nation. Back in 2008 she was more qualified to be President than John McCain. She was more qualified than Barack Obama and still is more qualified than Barack Obama.

Her presence on the ticket certainly didn't help McCain

She is the only reason I went to vote in 2008.

Funny how you're not worried about Couric asking Hillary about Benghazi ...

The left-wing news media establishment will never, ever ask Hillary or Obama about Benghazi ... except in the most softball terms. The left-wing bootlickers in the news media will let Hillary and Obama tell the story their way. They won't challenge them on the details or the inconsistencies. And that version will eventually end up in high school history textbooks.

That's what we're up against.

And if you think I'm a "collectivist," or a "communist worm," you're an idiot. I'd like to see Palin rip Hillary a brand new @$$ in 2016. Unfortunately, without some serious preparation -- spending the next four years very, very differently than she's spent the last four years -- Palin just isn't going to be able to do it. It saddens me to say it, but those are the facts.

Everything in your post I concur with totally.

Sarah has been called many things, a rock Star, she is a terrific communicator (a priceless gift of God), she is a common sense conservative, not afraid of the good ole boys in politics, etc., she is a fisherman’ s wife able and willing to help him, she is the Mother of 5 children and loves the last one, too. She is a doer, how many of us have written TWO books, given speeches around the world, had a series of TV programs about Alaska and what a wonderful State it is? She is one smart Lady. My hopes were she would be President instead of Obama. She is a real person of faith and not a false image. There is a definite intention by the left, progressives to besmirch her and all she does is belittled by the “Saturday Night Live” crowd. Hopefully she will say once again she has 'the fire in the belly' for the fight because now she knows how ugly and costly in can be to have the left try to annihilate her.

What do you understand her reasons to be for resigning her office before its completion? What was her personal motive to which you refer? Were there any good reasons for doing so offered at the time, and if so, why were they not believable? Do you also think she was in some way not telling the truth?
