If some future death panel does a Soylent Green on me they can use this in the repertoire.

The only two songs they did I could deal with were Casey Jones and Touch of Grey. Rhe rest just didn’t gell with me...and even those two were ‘ok I won’t turn the radio station if you insist’ type of ‘deal with’.

I love complex music as I am a Steve Vai junkie, so that’s not it. I even like some jam band stuff. But there is something about the Dead that I just can’t ‘get’.

Very pretty song, music, and video:

Vangelis & Jon Anderson - Deborah
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Id1dxBUqLNU

I read your letter
I got it just the other day
You seem so happy
So funny how time melts away
It’s such a pleasure
To see you growing
And how you’re sending your love
Thru’ the air today
I think of Heaven
Each time I see you walking there
And as you’re walking I think of children
Everywhere
It’s in your star sign
You growing stronger
I can’t believe you
It’s so good to care
Thru’ enchantment - into Sunlight
Angels touched your eyes
Your Highness - Electric - So Surprise
Is this your first life
It seems as tho’ you have lived before
You help me hold on
You have a heart like an open door
You sing so sweetly
My Love adores you
She does, she’s thinking of you
Right now, I know
The summer’s coming
I’ll keep in touch so you’re not alone
Then like a swallow, you’ll fly away
Like birds have flown
So let me tell you
How much I love you
I’d make the songbirds sing
For you again
Well now it’s goodnight
Sweet angel, read this letter well

> Long live the Yamaha CS-80!

Indeed, and, while it's not quite the same as having the original hardware synth, I find VST’s come quite close in many respects for a fraction of the price. Case in point...

http://www.memorymoon.com/me80.htm Selling for $40

http://www.arturia.com/evolution/en/products/cs-80v/intro.html Selling for $100

Since I'm in the presence of synth gurus, can anybody tell me the name of the patch, (I'm assuming that it was the CS-80) that produced the voice of the Angel at the beginning of the segment from Heaven and Hell that was lifted by Carl Sagan for Cosmos ?

Wow, you posted a lot. Just watched the Himalayas video...so beautiful. I love the opening with the sun in the clouds. Gotta get to bed, but just wanted to thank you for sending these. Might watch the Grand Canyon one before bed though. :)

Have you seen these—two of my favourites:

Watched the Grand Canyon one too :) Love that Southwestern scenery. So cool where it goes into the stars at 3:55. I love that! We saw a million stars when we were in the Canyonlands one night. The best!

Long ago in a galaxy far far away I was in a recording studio helping some friends do a demo for their band and the engineer offered me the use of the CS-80 they had in the studio. I was in heaven! Also they let me use their real Hammond B-3 and Yamaha CP 80 Electric Grand Piano. I think the price tag of those 3 instruments combined was well over 14 thousand dollars in 1980.

5 Years later I bought my first New Car and paid just over 7 thousand dollars.

My first digital setup of Keyboards cost me almost as much as my Car did. 2 Dx7s a Dx9 a KX5 Keytar and a Roland Juno 106.

Do you like Eric Wollo, or Jean Michael Jarre?

Dear Prole, I apologize. I didn't even see this post last night. I am not familiar with Eric Wollo. Do you have anything you can recommend?

I am familiar with Jean Michel Jarre and OF COURSE his dad (RIP) who is in my top five of film composers and if I got down to it is most likely sitting in the #1 spot. I first became familiar with the younger as a teen when I heard a piece of his music used in Gallipoli by Peter Weir in two scenes. I know I had an album or two of his back then, with that piece included on one, but I don't know any of his music now. Can you recommend some things for me to check out?

Hymm by Vangelis.

Very nice one raybbr. I believe this was used in a wine commercial in the 80's. I had it on Themes and/or Opera Sauvage.

Watching the Toronto time lapse. Thank you.

This is a cool one of Vancouver that someone sent to me and/or posted on FB a few years ago. Love the music and the beautiful time lapse. Maybe you’ve seen or will enjoy it too.

I actually have Arturia’s Jupiter 8V (I’m a Roland Fanboy with an Integra 7 on the way) and their MiniMoog ;)

Both great bits of software, though the purists claim they are ‘nothing alike’. Personally, I think they are great for what they are and can have lotsa fun and a hundred programs for what the real ones cost. Besides, who but a complete dweeb would care once you get’em in a mix anyway?

I don’t have a definitive answer on HH or Cosmos. But it’s likely. He was also a big user of Eminent organs which had a Solina string synth built in it. And a number of other keyboards. But anything big, spacey or brassy is probably the CS or a mix with CS in it.
