Photobucket has decided that they know how I want my images displayed better than I do.

If I had a free account I would have no right to complain but I've been paying for storage for at least 7 or 8 years.

I don't mind paying for service but I expect some control over my galleries.

Photobucket is catering to the kids with cellphone cameras and more interested in selling ads for bling than in hosting serious accounts.

I'm trying a 15 day trial at Smugmug, if I like it I've got to start moving photos.

I have one private gallery containing only images I use on Free Republic. They exist for no other reason.

Problem with tinypic is that you can't view your images, you have to keep list of links.

That may be true but considering I have never paid a dime to Tinypic and they have never manipulated my pics, it's a pretty good deal.

Learn to catalog your pics/links and the links aren't an issue.

Actually, I recently quit using Photobucket because it’s such a nightmare to use on my mobile.

I’ve got a pro account @ Flickr. I think it runs about $25/year or so.

Never had any complaints with them. I believe the free version allows 200 pics.

Might be worth a look see?

I have a flickr pro account, had it for years. I would have to mark each image private, can't have a private set.

I spend about 100 bucks a year on image hosting, I'm not looking for free anything. I want to have control over what I pay for.

Sure you can. Select a set - then “batch edit” your set to “change permissions” click (set to private).

It’s considerably less time consuming than designating each image separately. I’ve got many sets marked private family that are password protected.

Hope you find it helpful. :)

My story is that I have no recollection of ever giving photovucket my payment info, and just now I het a note that says I am “renewed on auto billing” for my “pro” account. And - by the way they don’t have a slideshow feature set up yet.
How to xfer files from PB to Image Shack?
And - now that PB is “in transition” so they say, who’s to say ImageShack will be any better in 3 months?

By the way I just ordered some prints from Shutterfly. They say they offer unlimited storage and - I do rather like the work they do - though Kodakgallery had (perhaps) superior photobook paper. We’ll see.

You have to download ALL of your images to your computer and then reupload them to Image Shack. There is a bulk loader that is a third party ap, but I haven’t tried it yet because I am going to watermark all my images first. This could take forever....and my pro account comes up for renewal in March. The only way to stop it is to contact photobucket.
I am actually thinking of suing them for breach of contract and loss of revenue.
From the other business people I have heard from, it could be a class action.

Last night I used migratyr to download everything I had at Photobucket, I started it up and hit the sack. I have it all in one huge folder now, in alphabetical order. I also spent 40 bucks for a year of Smugmug and shut down automatic renewal for Photobucket.

I'll load stuff to Smugmug a bit at a time, I had a lot of files I hadn't used or seen for years that I'll burn to discs.

Look into a pogoplug. 25 bucks for the hardware, plug in any USB drive, instant cloud storage you own without a monthly fee. I have a 3 terabyte drive plugged into mine

I share a family network, 4 computers on one modem. There are times when I am barely able to access the net.

The nice thing is that it needs upload bandwidth while everybody else in the house is using up the download bandwidth. It works as a local hard drive on your computer so up download files onto it from your computer, phone, tablet over your local wifi.

Migratr works pretty well - and will also DL back to your HD. Very simple to use, just did it. Something odd happened though - all my Photobucket shots are now of a much smaller resolution than they once were. I am signing off photobucket.
