The Americans introduced themselves as CIA officers andsaid they were there to help with the overthrow of Syria’s authoritarian president,Bashar al-Assad.

The activist declined to be namedfor this article, because he didn’t wantto be connected publicly to U.S.intelligence. He is respectedin Aleppo, and I first met him,in another southern Turkey hotel, at a State Department–funded training seminar for activists, where he was a keynote speaker. According to the activist, the officers questioned the group about creeping Islamism in the rebel ranks. Were Aleppo rebels supportive of democracy? Hostile to the West? What about alQaeda? Then the officers askedhow they could help. The activists wanted armedsupport for the rebels in Aleppo—in particular,surface-to-air missiles—but the officers explained thatAmerica worried such weapons couldfallinto the hands of extremists.

Did we betray the Islamists trying to overthrow Saddam Hussein II?

I don’t care. Hitler vs. Stalin, as far as I am concerned. Why not just let them fight it out?

You obviously have no clue as to what the purpose of the CIA is.

Their entire existence and effort is to stir up problems around the world so that THEY can remain “Gainfully Employed”, That the US Military keeps busy which means more power for our Government Officials.

Their Goal IS NOT to protect our country. Their Goal is to keep everyone’s eye off the real problems such as their are life on Mars (and elsewhere), to UFO,s, to destabilizing countries to prevent them from getting to powerful, to keeping the price of oil up, and on and on and on.......

THE DAILY BEAST: The Daily Beast is an American news reporting and opinion website founded and published by Tina Brown, former editor of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker as well as the short-lived Talk Magazine. The Daily Beast was launched on October 6, 2008, and is owned by IAC. Edward Felsenthal, a former Wall Street Journal editor, is the site's executive editor, and Stephen Colvin is its president.

That explains it.

The traditional definition of betray is either handing a friend over to his enemies and helping a friend's enemies to defeat him. I don't see either sense of the word here. The author's definition of betray appears to be our refusal to be servile dispensers of tribute to the Sunni rebels, who are angry that we infidels are not providing the jizya to which they, as good Muslims and the rightful owners of Allah's bounty on this earth, are entitled. My response is simple - molon labe.

Helping them just enough to prolong the conflict is a plus for us. The more Muslims kill each other off, the fewer will be looking for ways to attack us.

yes. Obama (Osama) helped more people in foreign countries than he helped in the US and most of them were high ranking officials - not to mention many high ranking officials here is the US.
