Obama’s plan: Into preschool, out of poverty
WaPo ^ | 2-14-2013 | Jonathan Capehart

President Obama went to Georgia to push his State of the Union proposal to work with the states "to make high-quality preschool available to every single child in America." He cited a statistic from the National Institute for Early Education Research that "fewer than three in 10" 4-year-olds are enrolled in this vital early education program. Just how vital was summed up in three charts from the White House.

One of them I showed you yesterday. At-risk children who don't go to preschool are 25 percent more likely to drop out of school, 60 percent more likely not to attend college and 70 percent more likely to be arrested for a violent crime. As one Alabama business leader said in a New York Times story today, "The evidence is, if we don't make this investment and we don't make it wisely, we're going to pay for it later."

That pre-kindergarten education is the gateway to a better life for poor, working-class children is highlighted in a chart that was used to highlight the importance of a college degree. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual income for people 25 and older with a college degree or higher is $60,004. Those without a high school diploma make considerably less, $23,532 annually.

Thirty-nine states and the District of Columbia have preschool programs. The president is right to push to expand them nationwide. The plan unveiled today calls for a federal-state partnership to do so. And it calls for an expansion of Early Head Start to reach children ages 0 to 3. Folks will balk at the expense. They’ll push back against what they see as the expansive, meddling hand of government. But all of this is an investment in the future of this country and striving generations to come.

First lesson: “Why anal sex with your teacher is okay”, followed by, “why Obama is the great provider”.

At-risk children who don't go to preschool are 25 percent more likely to drop out of school, 60 percent more likely not to attend college and 70 percent more likely to be arrested for a violent crime. As one Alabama business leader said in a New York Times story today, "The evidence is, if we don't make this investment and we don't make it wisely, we're going to pay for it later.

Whew!! Talk about overloading the BS meter!! I didn't attend pre-school. I graduated from high school and just earned my third college degree.

But, that's not what is behind this "initiative" by zero. This plan is one that was successfully pushed by very liberal (and Obama sycophant) San Antonio mayor Julian Castro, whom some liberal pundits believe is a Democrat up'n comer. Castro has a 4 year-old kid for whom he doesn't want to pay for pre-school, so he dreamed up this plan that would get the San Antonio residents to pay for it by raising sales tax by 1/8 cent.

And, San Antonians, not being among the sharpest knives in the drawer, went for it!! That's where zero got the idea. Castro called his plan "Pre-K for SA". Obama calls his plan "Another Screw Job for America!"

Julian Castro is a slimy, sneaky snake that has all the charm of a used car salesman. He also has a twin brother, Joaquin, who was recently elected to the House of Representatives. While I don't live in San Antonio, I live close enough and watch these two crooks at work. I don't like either one and wouldn't trust either of them to help the foxes guard the henhouse, much less have any concern for either the foxes or the hens. Julian Castro is about as cold-blooded as they come.

By the by, if you want to know what is in the soul of a leftist, you need look no further than their eyes. They are dead inside and their eyes betray that fact.

The way to insure “high quality” preschools is to pass laws against low-quality preschools.

How do you tell “high quality?”

In the “high quality” preschools, the teachers, teachers aids, facilitators, assistant facilitators, junior assistant facilitators, specialists, specialists’ assistants, coordinators, assistants to the coordinators, and liaisons are unionized.

“At-risk” is another term for “product of Obama voters.”

Of course, if there was a daddy in the home, they wouldn’t be “at-risk” and we can’t have that, can we?

Our current public education system has proven to be wildly successful in converting everyone under 30 into an Obamabot, so I’m not sure why he thinks he needs this.

“Head Start,” the flagship pre-kindergarten program introduced in 1965, has been a $166 billion failure. That’s the upshot of a sophisticated multi-year study just released by the Department of Health and Human Services.

An earlier iteration of the study, published in 2005, had found a few modest improvements in the language skills of participating students while they were enrolled in the program. But by the end of the first grade, even those few effects have disappeared, according to the follow-up released this month. Out of 44 separate cognitive tests given to former Head Start students at the end of the first grade, only two showed even marginally significant effects. The other 42 showed no statistically significant effect at all.

But even that overstates the case for Head Start. That’s because, on each of the 44 separate tests, there is a 1 in 10 chance of a false positive: a test result that appears to show a positive impact but is really just a random fluke. With so many test results, we’d expect to see at least a few false positives. Statisticians have ways to control for this problem, and when the authors themselves applied such a control, they found that the two apparently “significant” effects vanished.

What’s more, this applies to all the non-cognitive tests administered to students as well. After controlling for the likelihood of false positives, the study’s authors found no “socio-emotional” benefits and no “parenting practice” benefits either. No benefits to Head Start of any kind at the end of first grade. None.

Why is this important? Because $166 billion has been squandered on this program over the past half century, and the Obama administration is wasting even more, even faster. The president already increased annual spending on Head Start by more than a third last year, from $6.8 billion to $9.2 billion. He has made clear he does not intend to stop there.

But if the president were true to his own rhetoric, he would immediately reverse course. At least six times since the fall of 2008, President Obama has said: “We’ve got to eliminate programs that don’t work, and we’ve got to make sure that the programs that we do have are more efficient and cost less.” Well, Mr. President, your own Department of Health and Human Services has demonstrated that Head Start does not work.

Before our kids and grandkids hit the education system, they all knew their alphabets, numbers and were reading at levels well above the grade level at which they entered. They knew all those things from us and their parents – at HOME!
Comes now Barack “The Great” Obama with an effort to resurrect the old plan to get 3 year-olds into the government school system with a system of pre-schools.
Let me see if I have this right:
The current schools K thru 12 are turning out hundreds of thousands of kids each year who are barely literate, don’t understand basic math but DO know how to slide a condom over a cucumber.
(As an aside, they must use really small cukes, most of these kids have repeated 6 grades or I should have been eating in the local high school lunchroom all these years.)
The country is essentially broke and here comes Dear Leader with another expensive program. This does, of course, meet his Cloward-Piven, Saul Alinsky Prime Directive to break the bank and drive the America he hates to her knees en-route to third world status.
The pre-school program makes sense to these cunning but delusional leftists: If the current leftist/progressive K thru 12 system is so effective in indoctrinating future voters that government is the solution to every problem and carried a dissembling Marxist into the White Hut, they must be nearly orgasmic at the thought of getting their hands on the kiddies 3 or 4 years SOONER!
We must NOT allow that to happen!
A quote from the sad history of Europe for you to consider:
“When an opponent declares, ‘I will not come over to your side,’ I calmly say, ‘Your child belongs to us already... What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time they will know nothing else but this new community’.” Adolph Hitler Speech November 1933

Hitler was stopped before he could accomplish his goals. If the few remaining sane adults remaining in America do not wrest control of the government schools from the progressives/leftists/big government statists now running them, we have only ourselves to blame if another Obama – or far, far worse – appears on the scene.
And we are far closer to that point than you may think!
And the saddest element of all of this is that these future Americans won’t even understand that the birthright we took for granted has been snatched from them and their progeny.

“At-risk children who don’t go to preschool are 25 percent more likely to drop out of school, 60 percent more likely not to attend college and 70 percent more likely to be arrested for a violent crime”

A correlation does not indicate causality.

Lets see the causes of "at risk" children are: Single parent homes, Illegitimacy, FAS, abuse, neglect, poor nutrition, etc....

All of which increased under the auspices of the Demoncrat party helping the less fortunate. These polices have created a dependent class.

Research that "fewer than three in 10" 4-year-olds are enrolled in this vital early education program

My girls attended a private preschool, so they would have been one of those included in that stat that do not attend.
