He's gutted their healthcare, plans to cut their pay and apparently, doesn't trust them either. David Codrea over at Gun Rights Examiner points out that Marines marching in President Obama's second inaugural parade recently were caring rifles without bolts, meaning they were removed.

The President’s got nothing to worry about. Heck, we don’t even know he’s foreign or domestic!
While I’m confident that 70% to 80% of Marines despise the socialist usurper, disarming them was unnecessary. The vast majority of Marines have a high level of integrity and would not harm the drug-addled petty tyrant, or worse, risk collateral damage to decent Americans who might be there against their will.

My understanding is that live ammo is carefully controlled in the military and always has been. A significant contributor in the Ft. Hood massacre, which was essentially in a gun-free zone.
Maybe he’s familiar with how Sadat died.
A POTUS who distrusts his own soldiers & Marines carrying guns, and preaches against citizens having guns.
A Federal government that distrusts the civilian population possessing guns. A few state governments which follow suit.
And liberal cluck disapprovingly at citizens who are stocking up on guns.

I don’t think the ceremonial rifles they carry are operational anyway. Pretty sure they don’t draw weapons and ammunition from the Batallion armorer. Still, it says a lot that it has been noticed now, with this pres—ent, for the first time.

I was in the Army, and the answer is yes. No, we were not issued ammo during parades. So, why do you think the president is worried?

Can’t speak for the Marine Corp [don’t want my head chewed off!]... But, if you were ever in the military and “marched on parade” OF COURSE your weapon was not loaded. No ammo. Remove the firing mechanism? That’s a new one on me. Maybe it’s part of Don’t-Ass-Don’t-Tell. Or, maybe it’s just that things have changed that much in the past 40 years. I remember an M-14 that I believe was full functional... save the ammo. Of course, I can’t remember what I had for lunch last Friday.

From what I’ve read, this is a ceremonial Marine unit that does almost nothing but Drill And Ceremony. At least one article suggested that the Marines did it themselves, as a subtle message to those who noticed.
