The grandma in maroon velour pants and comfortable shoes came in with a Pathmark paper shopping bag and wearily plunked it down on the table at the Union Baptist Church in Montclair.
Inside were three handguns and three full clips.
They were my husbands, said the police widow.
She was behind the dad with five handguns in a Hickory Farms cardboard box. As he tried to decide which three to hand over for cash, his son no more than 12 played a handheld video game. Eventually, he gave up all five.
Yes, it was mostly Mr. and Mrs. Joe Citizen turning in all those guns this weekend during Essex Countys amnesty buyback, where people could get cash for as many as three weapons, no questions asked.
But that doesnt make it a bad idea.
The way I look at it, every gun that comes in represents one less funeral and one less crying mother, said Ron Christian, pastor at Christian Love Baptist Church in Irvington.
I know, because Im burying these people. One less gun is one less suicide, One less domestic situation that ends up with somebody getting killed. One less child killed by accident.
Christian buried one like that last year. A 2-year-old who died playing with a gun brought into the house by his mothers boyfriend.
The gun buyback program run out of the state Attorney Generals Office has been criticized because, obviously, not many criminals are going to hand over their guns. But thats not the point.
The point is to get unwanted guns out of circulation.

typical crap we read in the MSM
A total festival of stupid negros. And I stand by that statement.
Your word “Stupid” triggered(intended)a thought.

Look at these full size and weight. they do everything a real gun does except shoot.
My thought is, buy a few of these for $50-$75 then go to a few buybacks. Turn the ‘weapons’ in and make enough profit to get yourself a new gun.
Looks like a win win to me.
Ditto. I agree 100%.
Why don’t these morons sell the gun to a gun shop for more money than they are receiving at the buybacks?
Lord knows when this grandmother would have been overwhelmed by the inherent evil of those guns and opened up on a family picnic or something.
Why didn't the daffy old woman take the guns to a pawn shop? They would have given her 40% of value, which was certainly more than the buy back gave her.
Might help explain why white families of equal income have significantly more net worth than black families.
Can’t fix stupid.
Life is unfair, especially if you’re stupid.
Another demonstration of the stupidity of the morons living in this country these days. They could sell these guns to gun dealers for a hell of a lot more than a 50 dollar gift card. Morons.
Every time one of these articles appears, the author adds her/his name to the list of people who won't be missed if it comes to outright armed resistance to confiscation.
So this jackass thinks that EVERY gun out there has been used in a suicide, domestic dispute or "accident" and someone has died. LOL! What a pinhead. Not very bright.

Not that every gun HAS committed murder or suicide, but potentially will. I wonder what other instruments or tools will commit crimes. My house is full of tools of all kinds that have never committed a crime. Maybe inner city atmospheres turn tools criminal?
Interesting how the folks that don’t trust people to have guns are the same people that want socialism, or truthfully speaking, communism, which assumes that all men are inherently good. Their minds are totally under the influence of Satan.
I’m holding out for the hammer and baseball bat “buyback” programs. I’ve got some old ones laying around the garage.
