A new James Bond novel will be released in September, written by Booker Prize nominee William Boyd, the estate of Ian Fleming has announced.
The title is being kept under wraps, but publishers Jonathan Cape say the book will feature a slightly older 007, in keeping with the latest film.
Boyd has also said his 1960s-set story will mark a return to "classic Bond".
He is the third author in recent years to be invited by the Ian Fleming estate to write an official Bond novel.

James Bond will perform his first gay kiss and bathhouse romp.
Skyfall came very close to it.
The next Bond Novel will take place in 1969. In 1969 the space race was heating up, Britian and the US were changing socially, De Gaulle was no longer President of France, the Nixon era was beginning, and Herold Wilson was prime Minister (Homosexuality and Abortion were made legal and the death penalty was abolished in the UK).
Also, according to the canon, Bond was about 49 in 1969.
please enough with gay Bond crap, thank you.
There will never be another “classic” Bond novel....
Ian Fleming is dead...He is the only one who could write REAL CLASSIC Bond....
Sean Connery is the only REAL film Bond also.....
Skyfall had a gay scene in it, and there is pressure to infuse the gay agenda into the next Bond movie (and everything else that comes after). I'm just pointing out the obvious.
Thanks for supporting your fellow freeper in trying to keep traditional culture from spiraling out of control /sarc
Meh....
Just saw “Skyfall” and HATED it!
Big disappointment...
"...too libertarian to be a social conservative"

There are rumors that IFP will kill off the novel Bond in the next novel.
I am assuming that since the novel takes place in 1969 that this would be the Bond of the Fleming Bond Canon, not the rebooted Bond.
I have never read any JB books other than Ian Flemings ones. How do they hold up to the originals?
Just watched Skyfall Javier is really creepy as the bad guy not sure if i like it did not grab me like Casino Royale and Quantum did.
I really thought it was a beautiful movie visually, but failed as a Bond movie.
Kingsley Amis book Colonel Sun is interesting but lacks Fleming’s style. John Gardner introduces Bond to espionage genre.
I would recommend Raymond Benson’s “High time to Kill”
“I really thought it was a beautiful movie visually, but failed as a Bond movie”
Thats it in a nutshell it’s exactly how i felt..
Will check out Benson.
In Casino Royale, M told her assistant at one point: “God, I miss the Cold War!”
A novel set in 1969 is a good start.
I kinda miss the Cold War era too...
I almost wished Silva hadn't been killed. I was intrigued by his service to MI6, specifically his stint in Hong Kong from 1986-1997, and thought that his character could have had a continuum in a hypothetical future Sam Mendes-led Bond film, much like Richard Kiel's charcater "Jaws" did in TSWLM and FYEO.
