How do you cook waffles in an oven?

Didn’t the old (pre-electric) waffle irons have to be heated in the oven or on a stovetop?

i use a different one ~ flip handle and so forth ~ really neat ~ but lots of people keep frozen waffles around ~ some toast them in the oven and others use a toaster. Maggotwaving them leaves them soggy.
