An 18-year-old Florida woman was only slightly injured this week when she was shot by her friend’s oven, police said.

Aalaya Walker was visiting a friend in St. Petersburg Monday when they decided they wanted some late-night waffles, The Tampa Bay Times reported. So Walker began preheating the oven—unaware that her friend, JJ Sandy, 25, was storing a magazine from his .45-caliber Glock 21 in the oven.

The magazine exploded about 9 p.m. ET, spraying casing fragments at high speed and striking Walker. She managed to pick some of the fragments out of her leg and chest and then took a bus to the hospital, where she was treated and released. …

Ovens don’t shoot people, but I’d nominate this article for the Headline of the Month award.

You are quite right...i have seen shotgun shells tossed in fires with little more than explosive effect..birdshot and they tended to burn or pop

I grew up with waxed paper shotshells

Peters

not sure i would throw a .950 JDJ in the campfire as a lark..and at 40 bucks a shot

"...was storing a magazine from his .45-caliber Glock 21 in the oven."

Storing? As in, he put it there for safe keeping? What a maroon.

My husband turned the broiler on in his mother’s gas oven to toast English muffins one morning, unaware that his visiting aunt had left her girdle in the oven to dry overnight via the warmth of the pilot light. Burnning rubber makes a horrid smell!

Sandy wasn't charged because he had a proper concealed weapons permit, The Tampa Tribune reported.

Am I missing something? Of what relevance is a CC permit to this incident? It's not a license to be stoopid.

Since the oven didn't have a permit, will it be charged, or just euthanized?

i use a different one ~ flip handle and so forth ~ really neat ~ but lots of people keep frozen waffles around ~ some toast them in the oven and others use a toaster. Maggotwaving them leaves them soggy.

Guns don’t jump off the shelf and shoot people, but who knew?

LOL, I thought this was one of those misleading headlines, where the poor person was shot while STANDING BY an oven… But in this case, it was exactly as stated :-)

Now we have to ban ovens?

Just the high-capacity ones at first, though.

That's a running gag on the ABC sitcom The Middle. The Heck family uses their oven exclusively to store quilts and bedspreads. Until someone forgets and turns it on.
