I've always had a problem with the posting guidelines here. I believe that posting an entire article without permission is theft - pure and simple. I think that every article should be excerpted unless we have permission from the source to post full articles.

As to the posting limitations, copyright laws are laws. That means they are to be interpreted by courts and not by people on message boards.

It seems like many FReepers believe that the copyright laws were created in 1999 in order to harass Free Republic and other conservative sites. In reality, the first US copyright law dates to 1790. That's long before the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, and the thankfully dead Righthaven.
