Amazing Doc Severinsen tracks

Some remarkable music from Doc Severinsen and most of the members of the old Tonight Show.

These guys are the creme-de-la-creme of the LA session community in the late '60s.

At the time this album was made, the Beatles were still together. You can hear their influence, as well as that of Blood Sweat and Tears in this music.

When my high school band teacher heard this, his comment was "they probably did one run-through before they recorded that."

Enjoy.

Yes, it would be a good idea to give “Footprints” until 1:51, which is when awesome Ed Shaughnessy kicks in with his patented Diesel drumkit.

Doc and the entire TSO were the best of the best... Ed Shaunacy (sp?) was one of the greatest drummers, ever.

Something that a lot of people aren’t aware of though, was the good natured butt of a lot of Johnny’s jokes was Tommy Newsom, who did a lot of the arangements for the TSO and was a very talented musical director.

Yes, Newsome was a very talented professional.

You can hear him cut loose in the tenor solo on “Footprints.” He’s pretty wild. He plays with about the same degree of abandon that you might expect to hear from Jimmy Page.

Meh. Not into the “nobody expects THIS note” genre. A lot of talent there, but what a waste. IMHO.
