Cains Pickles removes a derogatory term from its labels after a mothers protests. An average day at the grocery store for Rhode Island mom, Michelle Martinka, turned into a moment of activism when she noticed that Cains Pickles, a popular New England brand, produced a line called Kosher Dill Midgets.
Martinka is the mother of ten-month-old Adelaide, a little girl with a form of dwarfism known as Achondroplasiaand midget is a derogatory way of referencing those born with the condition.
In response, Martinka waged a peaceful protest, which included the above YouTube video, urging the company to change the name of its productand so it did, gracefully, without objection or fanfare.
Gedney Foods, the makers of Cains Pickles, explained to the Star Tribune, The company is not seeking any attention related to this matter and believes that any publicity should be more appropriately placed on the children and families dealing with Achondroplasia.
In her email to TakePart, Martinka explains, "Although many people do not know, the m-word is derogatory, not just some innocuous word meaning small, as it was 50 years ago." She says, "I am fully aware that these pickles are just picklesand my daughter is a human. This was my first step in educating just one company. Years ago I may not have had the drive for such an undertaking, but change happens when situations arisenew circumstances, such as having a child diagnosed with dwarfism."
When asked what she hopes her daughter will someday learn from this, Martinka says, "I hope Addie takes away the knowledge that she can bring change. I hope she learns my motto to not be reactive, but [to be] proactive and educate."

What an incredible bunch of idiots (and I use the term not caring in the least whether it is considered politically incorrect these days). How and when did the word “midget” enter the ever-growing and possibly infinite category of words that someone, somewhere, might possibly find insulting?
The mother, as well as the “journalist” who wrote the story, should know that achondroplastic dwarves are not midgets, anyway. They are dwarves. There is a difference.
Finally, if I lived where Cains Pickles are sold, I would be getting in touch with the company to explain that I would no longer purchase their product because of their spineless accommodation of this stupid woman. The cost of relabeling the pickles and of promoting the new name will no doubt be passed along to consumers, and I would rather not help pay.
“This was my first step in educating just one company.”
Why, how big of you.
> I am deeply offended and hurt by the above product. As one who is melanin challenged, this attack on people of the white race is outrageous. It’s nothing short of a call for genocide I tell you!
I want 72.9 zillion dollar for my suffering!
I bet that stuff is manufactured at plants in New Orleans and Detroit. File a complaint with the AG’s office while you’re at it but I bet you don’t hear back...lol
I’m fine with not using the word midget but why is it more derogatory than dwarf?
Exactly. She admits it’s not meant to be derogatory, and that she - not the company - is weird.
Offensive - in the world according to progressive liberals, there is no objective right or wrong. Except, some things are “offensive”. Whatever is offensive is wrong. It’s ALL prejudice.
Democracy, to the progs, isn’t about making government accountable to the people. It’s about determining whose prejudices will rule.
While many people don’t see this clearly, as a consequence of there is no objective right and wrong, there would be nothing wrong with euthanizing those deemed unfit, those who are unproductive, or simply those whom the majority finds to be offensive.
Thus, this mother senses that if “less than average size people” (the preferred euphemism) are labelled as genetically abnormal (which, objectively, they are), they are at risk of being denied a license to reproduce or perhaps even being euthanized (preferably while within the womb, but if necessary even upon being born).

Every other word in the dictionary offends someone these days.
Any bets on she voted for hussein?
I like your analysis.
Couldn’t have said it better. :)
Vertically Challenged Kosher Dills.
Now if we could only find out who was the world's tallest midget....
This country has descended too far into howling lunacy to ever return.
The kid isn’t really a midget anyway, she’s a dwarf.

So midget,retarded,N-word, etc. are "banned". Plenty more to go before we are totally silenced or invent new words. How about micro-pickles or sub-micron people?
Or how about we ignore the speech Nazis and carry on...
The M word???? Are you kidding? How about the G word? As in I give up.
Things like this would have been a comedy routine a few years back.
Waiting for the lawsuit from the Association of Underendowed Males.
