Amazon Releases New Advert Featuring Same Sex Couple

Online retailer Amazon has released a new television advert featuring a same-sex couple.

The online retailer has history of supporting gay equality and the latest example of this is an advert released by the company which features a same-sex advert. The advert is for Amazon’s Kindle Paperwhite.

In 2012 Amazon was one of a number of companies who supported Referendum 74 in the state of Washington. The Referendum in the American state was on the introduction of same-sex marriage.

Amazon and other companies such as Google, Starbucks, Nike and Microsoft took out full page adverts in newspapers giving their backing to gay marriage.

The referendum was passed in Washington making it one of a handful of states in America to allow gay and lesbian couples to marry. Amazon’s founders Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos reportedly pledged over $2.5 million dollars to the fight for marriage equality.

Amazon is not the first company to feature a same-sex couple within an advert but even in the 21st century such things are still controversial amongst the religious conservative right especially in America.

Clothes retailer GAP has used adverts with same-sex couples and faced the wrath of lobby group One Million Moms for it. Popular Swedish furniture store Ikea has also featured same-sex couples in its advertising.

Media experts predict that more companies will use gay and lesbian couples within their advertisements as the general public continues to become more accepting of such couples. The legislation of same-sex marriage in various countries and several states within America will likely encourage more companies to use same-sex couples in print and television adverts.

For the curious, The ad can be seen here

The commercial starts off as a pretty standard Kindle ad: Guy sitting on the beach is reading a glare-prone iPad

Girl sitting next to guy is reading a Kindle

Guy asks girl about the Kindle

Girl tells guy all the great features of the Kindle

When they're done talking about the Kindle,

the guy makes his move on the girl and says they should go out and celebrate.

"My husband's bringing me a drink right now," says the girl.

Guy's reponse: "So is mine!"

And both the guy and girl turn around to wave to their respective husbands who wave back at them.

Earth to Amazon:

You have a good business - SELLING THINGS.

That is your business.

Not selling gays - or straights, for that matter.

Stick to what you know and can do.

Just think, if our Loon-O-Dent had followed that advice some village would have their idiot ditch digger return home.

Yes, I saw that ad and it turned my stomach. But to be fair I was equally bothered by the Citibank? commercial where the woman rock climber starts out the ad: My boyfriend and I recently went on vacation...”

Yeah, I get it, premarital sex is just swell.

If one ad bothers you then the other should too. I have begun to unwind from Amazon. It’s hard, but that ad pushed me over the edge.

So, a guy sticks that back there and then the other guy puts what was there in his mouth?

Now now.. This is America and many of us believe in the freedom to do what you want. I certainly do so if someone wants to eat poop that is fine with me. If Amazon wants to promote people that eat poop that is A-OK with me too.

I still have the right to not eat poop or buy anything from Amazon. Amazon is not trying to tell me what to eat nor are they forcing me to buy anything. That would be wrong and I’m sure most Americans would agree with me except for idiots that think Michelle Obama should be telling people what to eat and agree that Barack Obama should be able to force people to buy government insurance.

For virtually anything electronic, see ...

A family-owned business that holds to traditional values.
Their prices are very competitive, sometimes even cheaper. They also sell used stuff. You can haggle prices, if you can find the same article for less.

For those of you looking for kindle formatted books, try ...

Avoid Google.
Avoid Apple.
Avoid Microsoft
Avoid Amazon

Use open source operating systems and software.

Buy your hardware from manufacturers that don’t wear their sickle and hammer or gay pride flag on their sleeves.

Barnes and Noble are among the worst offenders.

Avoid them.

See some alternatives in post 6 above.

If you’re looking for books, you can do comparison shopping online. Amazon is generally price competitive but there are other sites out there that compete well.

Here is a site that does comparison shopping for you :

http://www.dealoz.com/

All you need to do is enter the title of the book you want and this site gives you a list of online sites that sell the book ( you can sort the result according to price -— lowest to highest ).

Good gosh, that would mean 90% of us FReepers will have to trash our computers and operating systems. We would also have to use Yahoo as out search engine from now on...

As for Smart Phones, I guess we can’t use either iPhones or Androids or even Windows Phones. Who else is there? I hope Blackberry doesn’t come out with a gay ad....

Nothing better for business than pissing off 60% of your customers to appeal to 3%....

For searches, use ixquick. It does anonymous searches, unlike the Nazi Google, and does not spam you with advertising.

Android appliances are Google. Androoid is a phishing expedition masquerading as an operating system. Even though it has a Linux kernel as it’s base, the operating system built around the kernel is particularly insidious, not to mention that Google is avidly anti-family, anti-Christ, and pro-communist. Avoid Google and all their products.

i-appliances (i-phone, i-pad, etc) are made by Apple, who is publicly communist, anti-family, and anti-Christ.

Same with microsoft.

Get phones and tablets that use non-Google, non-Apple, and non-Microsoft operating systems. For example, Firefox OS.

The problem is, that 3% probably has more time and money that the other 60% put together. Think of it: largely middle class origin, well educated (or at least credentialed),have leverage in their minority status for advancement to high income management and professions, unencumbered by kids, no college tuition, have an inside track provided by a vast, largely exclusive network of contacts... They're a goldmine.

I sent the following to Amazon Customer Support (Amazon feedback)

I was not confrontational, just asking a fair question or two.
________________________________________________________
This is a fair an honest question. Does Amazon feal that the gay marriage commercial is going to help or hinder its wonderful reputation with people apposed to gay marriage. This a free country and Amazon can certainly advertise in anyway Amazon chooses. Likewise, customers can shop where ever they choose. I know that the ‘gay’ thing is the flavor at the moment, I just wonder if they are the bulk of your clientele? Just asking..

Yes, I saw it last week. Disgusting. Deleted the Kindle program off the computer and won’t be ordering anything from Amazon again.

The Kindle device is sold at a loss, deliberately. The more Kindle devices out there, the more e-books they sell. E-books are enormously profitable (no printing and shipping costs). The profit on the e-books more than offsets the loss on the devices.

...already replied to them the moment I saw it. Told them that as long as they support BULLY politics i will not buy from them. They can have their official position, but if they are going to target their media advertisement to a group comprising less than 3% of our population it is because they are choosing to PROMOTE THAT LIFESTYLE CHOICE and have been bullied into doing so.
