'Duck Dynasty': Why you should be watching it. (best show on the tube IMO)
fox ^ | 3/5/13 | na

When "Duck Dynasty" returned for its third season last week, it was greeted by an audience of 8.6 million viewers. Pretty good for an A&E reality series about bearded bayou brethren who manufacture duck calls and love to go bird hunting.

Except that's not what "Duck Dynasty" really is. Viewers who have ducked this show thus far, assuming it's just another mocking redneck display on the order of "Here Comes Honey Boo Boo," have it all wrong. And they're missing out.

Nor, by the way, is this a show that has much to do with the duck-call business (life has many distractions for the Robertson clan), nor is it a show that dwells on people killing animals (are you listening, Morrissey?).

Instead, "Duck Dynasty" (airing two half-hours at 10 p.m. EST Wednesday) is a warm and witty family show that is more akin to a classic sitcom than it is to the likes of "Buckwild."

Best show on TV in my opinion. Of the three seasons I have been watching this show, I have heard one, thats ONE, bleed out of a curse word. Thats just the way the show is. I told my wife it would never last. Why? No pregnant teenagers, no drunken foul-mouthed rich kids on a 24/7 party. No nakedness. No teens glorifying slutty behavior on primetime TV. And they pray each episode over supper. GASP!!! Good Christian family people PRAYING on TV! I don't have Tivo or DVR or other such fancy TV things but my cable will allow me to "look back" or "OnDemand" previous shows. I watch it anytime nothing suits me on TV. Thats just about every day. I could go on and on with quips and "remember when Si..." for hours. It is VERY refreshing to see a family oriented show... with laid back attitudes and TRADITIONAL CHRISTIAN AMERICAN MORALS. Its success proves that not everyone wants to see a drunken pregnant teen.

A week or so ago some musician refused to go on the Jimmy Kimmel show because the Robertsons were to be on the same show. he is a vegitarian and said the Robertsons are “animal mass murders”. When Kimmel asked Phil Robertson about it he said people been eating animals since the dawn of mankind, but we'll pray for our neighbor anyway..That was a great comeback IMO. Kimmel then arranged for the Robertsons to do a spoof commercial for a new “carrot call”, look for it on youtube it's a nice dig on the idiot musician.

Brilliant show!

We thoroughly enjoy it for all the reasons you outlined and the fact that it promotes the American dream.

Several of my students turned me on to the show. I wanted to see what all the fuss was about. Sort of a cross between Cosby show meets mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom.... but that not exactly right either.

Dittos to that! It’s top of the list of the very few programs I watch.

Of course I also like Full Throttle Saloon, Honey BooBoo, and right now I have a Bonanza rerun on one channel and am flipping between that and live Racing At The Meadows, our local harness racing track south of Pittsburgh, on another.

I like shows that show men.

Not that I like men, mind you, but shows that show real men in traditional males roles. With women in female roles. No fairy little queers picking out curtains.

I like Deadliest Catch and Moonshiners and such shows as that.

I will not watch shows that glorify homosexuality, metrosexuality, drunken oversexualized teens.

The Robertsons fit the tradition family roles that I support to a tee.

I think it was also Phil who said on that show regarding atheistism: “Kimmel the only hope that an atheist has is that HE not be there”.

Just WOW!

In the 1960s, Robertson, now 66, was the starting quarterback at Louisiana Tech for two seasons ahead of Terry Bradshaw. His teammates and a coach recall him as a talented, outdoors-obsessed character who walked away from his final year of eligibility to spend more time hunting and fishing, but had the talent to play in the NFL:

I think one of the funniest lines was after Si had taken Willie’s daughter for a driving license. Willie asked her if she learned anything and she said “I learned you can get a fightin’ chicken in Viet Nam for under twenty dollars.” Then she said “Hey”.
