Blackball you, maybe? Carly Rae Jepsen, Train bail on Boy Scouts Jamboree over gay policy

HOLLYWOOD, March 6, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Two musical acts have announced they will not perform at the Boy Scouts annual Jamboree – one ruling out a performance and the other saying the organization would have to change its policy on admitting homosexuals as members and scoutmasters before they would perform.

"As an artist who believes in equality for all people, I will not be participating in the Boy Scouts of America Jamboree this summer," Carly Rae Jepsen announced on Twitter yesterday. She pledged to "stay informed on the ever changing landscape in the ongoing battle for gay rights in this country and across the globe."

Her announcement came one day after the band Train said it would only perform at the annual event this July 15-24 if the Scouts changed their policy.

“We have always seen the BSA as a great and noble organization,” they wrote on their blog. “We look forward to participating in the Jamboree this summer, as long as they make the right decision before then."

The outdoor children's organization had been scheduled to revisit its policy on admitting homosexuals last month, but the BSA board delayed making a decision until May.

Jepsen became known for her infectious and ubiquitous pop smash, “Call Me, Maybe,” which reached number one on music charts around the world. The former Canadian Idol contestant has had a spotty chart history since then, none attaining the success of her breakthrough debut. The members of Train have been more reliable hit-makers.

This year's Jamboree will be the first to be held in a new, permanent site in West Virginia. The event regularly draws 50,000 participants from around the country.

With a new site replete with rafting, swimming, biking, climbing, shooting, archery, and more, the Boy Scouts will not lack for entertainment whatever the group's final decision.

These acts aren’t new. I remember going in 1985 - one night it was the Beach Boys, and another it was the Oak Ridge Boys. Another night Nancy Reagan told us to ‘just say no’.

I do question using such contemporary acts. I think the reason they went with the Beach Boys and Oakridge Boys was they were known quantities, and very ‘matured’ by 1984. The BSA knew exactly what they were getting with these acts. And frankly, they are legends. Most people still recognize the names of these bands.

Jepson and Train are relative newcomers (Jepson especially)...and they certainly aren’t legends. They will be forgotten in 10 years...and really aren’t that big now. And Jepson especially has ‘train wreck’ written all over her.

I don’t think its a mistake to have big acts. The Jamboree is a big deal, it costs a ton of money to attend, and its supposed to be a lifetime memory. I still do remember the Beach Boys, 30 years later...if it was just ‘skit night’, I doubt I would have remembered a thing. Heck, we may have had skit night, but I just don’t remember.

I looked to see who performed at the last Jamboree - it was an alternative rock band called ‘Switchfoot’. A definite ‘up and coming’ band - which may be the path the BSA has to take, since all the established acts are going to succumb to the gay lobby....and that’s a shame.

Barry didn’t attend the last one, breaking a tradition Bush, Clinton, and Bush established...and while Reagan could not attend, Nancy Reagan did. I doubt he will show up for this one either. The BSA are being painted as homophobic lunatics who should be treated like rodents...so they won’t get a presidential appearance.

Sadly, I think the BSA will eventually cave and let gays scouts in. Too many forces are lining up against them...heck, we have ‘christain’ churches in my town that are gay friendly. I think the BSA will go down that ‘inclusive’ path.

i think this is how to turn this back on them.

what kind of morality says that blackmailing people to change their moral beliefs, is superior moral behavior?

and really, would they actually believe the person changed their mind for such a stupid ultimatum? like it’d really be genuine? like they’re that important of a person? what ego.
