Hippies were Satan worshipers, according to history book

Hippies were rude, dirty, Satan worshipers, according to a paragraph that apparently appears in a Louisiana state-funded school’s history book.

The book, entitled “America: Land I love” is an eighth-grade history textbook that Mother Jones reports is used in at least one Louisiana voucher school. The textbook is published through Pensacola, Fla.-based A Beka Book.

According to an image obtained at AmericaBlog.com, the passage on hippies paints a stark, unflattering image: “They went to Canada or European countries to escape being drafted into military services. Many young people turned to drugs and immoral lifestyles; these youth became known as hippies. They went without bathing, wore dirty, ragged, unconventional clothing, and deliberately broke all codes of politeness or manners. Rock music played an important part in the hippie movement and had great influence over the hippies. Many of the rock musicians they followed belonged to Eastern religious cults or practiced Satan worship.”

Hyberbolic BS makes you less credible when telling the truth, and that is exactly what this is...

Satan doesn’t care if anyone worships him. He wants people to worship THEMSELVES and nobody did that better than the baby boomer generation.

Blunt, but accurate.

What’s offensive about it? That it doesn’t falsely credit them for changing the world for a better place?

I’m more offended by the blanket accusations against Rock musicians.

OK the Satan Worship accusation might be taking it a little bit over the edge, but at the same time it was the late 60s/70s when LaVey started his Satanist Church.

Hey don’t forget they managed to turn South East Asia into a communist prison camp killing millions in the process, and they did all this despite the fact communism was going to collapse everywhere else in a few years.

That’s what I call an accomplishment.

Exactly. The hippies were into tons of Eastern mysticism (alleged) and pagan Wicca bullcrap. They were idiotic, definitely drugged out. Perfect foundation for the democrat party to build upon, which it did.

I don’t think they were a hippy movement particularly, rather just one of many counter-cultural groups of the time who reveled rebelling against anything that normal society held as good and decent. I suspect most young ‘adults’ who joined these groups because they were tragically immature and and wanted to annoy their parents because they were having a prolonged period of adolescence.
Unfortunately, many of them never really grew out of it and even today haven’t ever completely grown up...

“They went to Canada or European countries to escape being drafted into military services. [MANY DID] Many young people turned to drugs and immoral lifestyles [PROBABLY MOST]; these youth became known as hippies. They went without bathing, wore dirty, ragged, unconventional clothing, and deliberately broke all codes of politeness or manners. [MOST DID] Rock music played an important part in the hippie movement and had great influence over the hippies. [AND STILL DOES] Many of the rock musicians they followed belonged to Eastern religious cults or practiced Satan worship.” [VERY TRUE FOR '60-'70's]

Other than being guilty of generalizations, I don't see anything here that's untrue at all.

Whether "satan" is a real critter, or simply the dark side of the force, your line above is correct.

Pretty darn concise, succinct and accurate.

This should serve as an example to emulate.

The Jesus Freaks were the hippie revival Christian movement and helped get Reagan into office.

There was a strong theme of Christianity among many hippies.

Where people go wrong is confusing political activists and radicals, yippies, and college kids on their way to high political office, PHDs, and law degrees and wealth and power, with “hippies”.
