WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Bruce Martin was watching movies in the middle of the night when he suffered a massive heart attack. His dog Clyde nudged him and, getting no response, trotted into the bedroom to awaken Bruce's wife,Mitch.
The Martins believe that Clyde, a 5-year-old pit bull/golden retriever mix, saved Bruce's life.
"Clyde's my insomnia buddy. He'd stay up with me while I was watching movies at 3 in the morning," said Martin, still recovering from the Feb. 11 collapse and subsequent bypass surgery. "That particular night I got up to cross the room and had the heart attack. I was unconscious, and when he couldn't get me to respond, he went to get Mitch."
"It took him two tries, but he led me to the living room," Mitch said. "That's where I found Bruce slumped over the back of the couch."

Dedicated to all the FR-insomniacs. :)
My dog would be waiting by his food bowl, waiting for his kibble to cascade in to it at 7:00 AM sharp.

LOL.....it will be interesting to see if pooch will be thrown off by daylight ST. I doubt it. He'll hear me rummaging around the kitchen and assume the position.
Reminds me of the cat we had who thought he was a dog....he'd curl up next to the dog to nap......dog would get annoyed and move.....cat would move next to him....this went on on all during nap time. If the cat gave up, he'd curl up to sleep in the dog's food bowl...knowing the dog would show up there sooner or later. :)

His dog Clyde nudged him and, getting no response, trotted into the bedroom to awaken Bruce's wife,Mitch. Exactly how do they know this. Did they get a statement from the dog?

Exactly how do they know this. Did they get a statement from the dog? The dog's press secretary released a ruff draft of his statement.

Wow, who knew the dog was married?

Sort of makes vacuuming all those doggie hairs off the couch worth it, doesn’t it?

I believe the story. I think my dogs would do the same. Dogs (a lot of times) understand when there is a problem and alert their person. One of my dogs told me there was a rattlesnake in the bathroom...he barked for 10 minutes and I finally went in to see what was going on....and there it was.
The dog in the pic is very sweet looking.

Looks more like pit/yellow lab mix than pit/golden retriever mix. My sister has one who looks similar.

Web cams recording the house interior?
Probably just journalistic license, however...

Actually the cat was leaving his scent on the dog, an act of dominance.

Figured such.....but would never tell the dog....who was a saint about it all. :)
I thought I noticed the beginning of this behavior when they shared a sun spot...and became habit when the dog moved, when the sunspot moved...cat would follow.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......all to myself. No cat.
