Be glad she prefers the Purina. When they were having all the pet food recalls due to the poisonous crap from China, Purina was never on the list. Most of the store brands were.
I feed ours regular Purina Cat Chow and have for many years. They also get a portion of canned cat food once a day. Except for an occassional case of the sniffles, our furballs have been a pretty healthy lot.
The two times I tried to save a little $$ by buying store brands, I ended up with BIG vet bills from having to treat them for cystitis. Those were the only two times we had that problem.
It sounds like your kitty knows what’s good for her. :-)
I know Diamond Pet Foods has some of the worst dog food ever. They have been in trouble for years. I don’t know why they haven’t gone out of business?
I get a laugh out of the commercials for dog and cat food, stressing wholesome fruits and vegetables.....dogs and cats are animals that eat meat....
Ka-CHING!
Most cat food is loaded with corn products...when is the last time you had to chase cats out of your corn patch? When is the last time your cat left a half-chewed ear of corn on your front step?
Cats even more so than dogs. Cats are pure carnivores.
I agree all the grains and corn in cat foods isn’t good for them, but cats actually love corn. Give them access to fresh cobs left after corn on the cob and they go wild for it. At least our barn cats used to back in the day.
Vets gotta eat too.
Considering the rates they charge at ‘after-hours’ clinics; vets are eating as well as Michelle Obama. :-)
I dunno... I’ve known cats that would eat corn.
Well, actually my Little Lucy loves Doritos, especially the nacho flavored ones ;o)
>cats need their peas.<
We had a weirdo kitty that would eat the juice from canned peas. She loved the stuff.
That food was so bad that our cats wouldn’t even eat it. I don’t know how they knew that there was a “thiamine deficiency” in the food, and I suspect that it was otherwise adulterated. How the heck could cats tell that all the “vitamins” weren’t there?
They absolutely refused to do more than sniff it and walk away. We tossed out two large bags, and we didn’t even attempt to give them to the local shelter.
I smell a rat... Or worse.
I seem to recall that smell is a cat’s primary sense. My guess is that the food didn’t smell right to them.
Agree re the rat, and not the kind a kitty would enjoy.
LOL!
That’s terrible. I have been buying a dry food that advertises no grains in it, and my kits like it fine - very high protein. Still, it just can’t be as good as a nice little chipmunk or blue jay ;o)
We switched from Premium Edge to Innova Prime Grain Free, and all three of our cats really like it.
They have a food toy that I fill each day. They have to work to get the food, and when they succeed in making it fall into the dish, it’s like a Vegas jackpot.
They’re so cute.
I had a foster cat that LOVED yogurt. Peach yogurt especially.
