Beck was talking about the “Common Core” curriculum. I’d never heard of it before.

Sounds just dreadful and it’s taking over all over the country.

Are there any actual examples of math problems in the period cited? When making the point to someone, it might be more useful to have some real math problems, and not have to use a clever, but exaggerated, viral email to make the point.

There should be a few more in there:

In 2000: A female lesbian logger and her life partner start a lumber company with a grant from the US government. Because of evil Republicans they can’t get married because of DOMA and Christian homophobes. Question: Do you think you might be a lesbian, and if so, would you like to talk to the volleyball coach about it?

We can’t ask our children to anything too mentally challenging, now, can we? Just think, if they learned to think for themselves and to figure things out, they just might figure out that the government is one big fraud.

It’s not school anymore, it’s just state run babysitting along with loads of indoctrination through propaganda.

Only anti-values are (”taught”) foisted on innocent children.

It's simple.

Back in the day, stupid people would naturally remove themselves from the gene pool. Being stupid HURT and was a likely death sentence.

Now we bubble-wrapped the world and put warnings on everything. We limit everyone’s freedom to prevent stupid people from hurting themselves. We feed and control diets of people too stupid to feed themselves. We feed the children of idiots, nomatter how many they breed.

Under such conditions, the amount of idiots will naturally increase exponentially every year until there aren't enough competent people to take care of them.

Compassionate, yes. But it's no different than being compassionate to a group of feral dogs in your home and letting them breed. Eventually they'll take over your home and everyone dies...horribly.

In 2013, all lumber production is now in China and US loggers are out of work. Doesn’t matter because the cost of load of lumber went from $100 to $10,000 in 60 short years and no one can afford it.

While he tried to explain the transaction to her, she stood there and cried

Perhaps the manager was Larry Summers... yeah, the same guy that thought he was smarter than the investing team for the Harvard University endowment fund. Ol' Larry was responsible for losses of billions of dollars in a few short years. Then he stood up at a conference on diversifying the science and engineering workforce and told everyone that "women lack the high end aptitude of their male counterpart."

We played store when we were little kids....with a little metal red cash register.

Take computers out of schools until 4th grade. By then, the basics have been taught.

Teach writing, too...........pleeze....

Because of my hatred of pennies I often give cashiers, many of them kids, more than the price so as to get back round numbers. I’ve never made anyone cry. Never gotten a blank stare or waited through managerial intervention, either. My assumption is that most customers who still pay in cash do it, and the girl in the story was probably new or especially stupid.

This isn’t something you should have to learn at school, anyway. It’s something you can pick up as you go. Simple transactional arithmetic.
