Is this the lost-movie thread? Does anyone remember an old flick starring...I dunno, maybe it was Gary Cooper...all I remember was one scene. The luckless hero was always getting into misfortune, and at one point acquired a grand old house and next thing you know it burned down. It was, I think, a screwball comedy, and of that era, but maybe it was Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart. It wasn’t “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House,” and I don’t recall that the house was central to the story, it was just about his horrible bad luck.

Do you know about locatetv.com? You list all the movies/tv episodes you would like to see, then the site emails you when they are available on tv or online. I have been able to watch some very obscure movies that I would have missed by using that service. You can customize your preferences according to which tv provider you use. It’s pretty handy.

Ok here is a film I have tried to find for years. About a man in his forties or fifties who is involved with a young twenty year old. He is about the same age as the girl’s mother, and at the end, it is suggested that mom is dying and she is happy that the man will be marrying her daughter and caring for her.

Do you have any more details about the film? About when it was made? Was it set in a definable time period? Any stars in it that you remember?

I do think it was a 40s or 50s film. I always thought it was Cary Grant, but a perusal of his work shows that it isnt him. It was a manly suited man like Grant and a well known woman for the mother. Cannot remember the young girl much.

Thank you very much. Yes, The Lucky Star is a movie I have been searching for. Louise Fletcher rescues a Jewish boy whose parents have been arrested by Nazis.
