They’re able to do Southern accents that are completely authentic; so many American actors overdo it to the point of being silly.

The secret is that a Southern accent has certain subtle similarities to a Scottish or Irish accent, and for good reason.

Yep, the English, Scots, and Irish settled this area. I have to admit, I can’t pick up the similarities with my ear, but the proof is in the pudding.
