In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

atavistic\at-uh-VIS-tik\ adjective
of, pertaining to, or characterized by atavism; reverting to or suggesting the characteristics of a remote ancestor or primitive type.

Example sentences:
Buck exhibits atavistic characteristics when his instincts and memories of an impossibly distant past "call" him and reassert themselves into his behavior.
-- Jack London, The Call of the Wild

...so that when Mrs. and Miss Hulme of Kansas City cut them dead in the Plaza one evening, it was only that Mrs. and Miss Hulme, like most people, abominated mirrors of their atavistic selves.
-- F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Beautiful and Damned

Etymology:
Derived from the Latin atavus meaning "ancestor," atavistic gained popularity in the 1870s.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)
Practice makes perfect.....post on....

As a result of our subjection to another four years of the Obama Regime's deceit, treason, and wholesale usurpation of our God-given rights, the atavistic, rebellious and truculent traits of my Celtic forebears will surely burst forth!

Prayers for you-one of the guys I hike with when he is home on the weekends got a new knee about 8 months ago to replace one injured multiple times, and he is very, very pleased-he works in the road during the week, and he says his level of pain and fatigue at work is way down. I’m sure you will be delighted with your results, too.

Awhile back, I bought my cats a couple of those little super-bouncy hard vinyl balls put out by 9 Lives cat food. They really like for me to roll one down the hall for them to chase after-they are great cat toys. Last evening, I rolled one down the hall, Titus and Midget girl raced after it-it hit the back door, and started bouncing down the hall in the opposite direction.

When Midget girl saw it coming toward her, she screeched to a stop and fell over her own paws to reverse direction, trying to keep the ball from overtaking her. I was laughing so hard-I’ve seldom seen anything that funny...

Prayers upward bound, FRiend! I had one three years ago - I was back to work in less than a week.

That sounds hilarious! Cat antics are funny, even more so when they try to recover their cool with a “yeah-I-meant-to-do-that” strut afterward.

One of my sons was diagnosed at age 3 with "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" in light of his truculent behavior. I told the Doctor that it was solely attributable to his Irish ancestry.

Truculent is one of my favorite words as well. Another is "apodictic." I can say with apodictic certainty that truculence will be required of us all in the coming struggle.

“recover their cool”

The Midget’s idea of recovering her cool is to hiss at the offending object as she runs to hide under the plant stand-in some ways, she behaves like the feral cat she almost became...

Thanks very much, Trisham! That photo was taken in 1994. Now he is twenty-two years old, six feet tall and 200 lbs. Still handsome and happy!

Nice story. Reminds me of Br. Casey from my sons’ HS in Houston. It was a small school and to be competitive, every boy had to participate in some sport — even if it was inermural croquet! My older son’s Sr.year thy won first in state in all eight sports.

But Br. Casey (who was the team trainer, as well as the Prefect of Discipline) probably spent more time with the boys than any other faculty member. He stayed with Strake Jesuit Colege Prep from its founding until now — longer than any teacher, president, or principal.

Politicians have long known that tempting the atavistic desires of mankind, greed, sex, food, jealousy etc., were the most effective way of garnering support from the people. Obama has raised it to an art.

Not making light of your son in any way but I looked up this disorder since I had never heard of it. The symptoms sound a lot like Mooshell to me - especially the angry, blaming others for their own actions, being spiteful, etc.

Hopefully your son is doing well and coping with his situation......I feel there is no hope for the obams with their anger.
