A California parking enforcement officer issuing tickets walked up to a man video recording him Wednesday and snatched his camera, telling him to “get that camera out of my face.”

Nevada City parking enforcement officer Jack Ward then walked away with the phone as Tony Loro tried to take his phone back.

Public “servant” doing his job in public expects privacy?

I don’t think this is going to end well for him. Grand theft of a Cell Phone if the value is over $500 isn’t it?

Correct. However, a uniformed police officer is involved. Nothing will come of this.

If it were a couple of mere serfs then we'd have a court proceeding. The ruling class is not subject to those pesky rules that we can be jailed for violating.

That parking jackass committed assault. Nevada? I thought it was California, the communists capital of America.

I guess it would be an overreaction to consider that an assault and reply with deadly force...

Which is it??? A camera or a cellphone???

IF it is a ‘phone’, then the public servant just committed robbery!

Remember, “public servants”, you DO work for the taxpayers!!!

As far as I know, taking a camera rather than a phone is still a robbery, isn’t it? Am I missing some distinction in the law?

Your tagline is missing "Police." They're the worst, because they are the most likely the average person will come up against. And they often ruin innocent lives in an instant, sometimes just for fun. Get into an argument with a cop during a traffic stop and you may find buying a gun now requires a three-day wait because he put something in your record that triggers the NICS red flag.

He’s a Meter Maid.

I would have loved to have seen the tussle if camera boy had called him that.

“Chief Wickham later told Loro that it was against the law to insert coins in meters that did not pertain to his car, which may or may not be true, but it is even more against the law to snatch a person’s camera out of their hands.”

The purpose of the parking meters IS to collect money. Does “the law” actually state a concern about WHO puts the money in?? I seriously doubt it.

Chief Wickham just recently became Chief. If he is wrong about the law in this case, he should be fired.

At a minimum, if he was unsure about the law, he should not have tried to say that Loro’s putting the money in the meters was illegal. If he is wrong about the law, he compounded his ignorance by shooting his mouth off just to try to protect an officer, in a situation where an investigation should occur first, to establish that the officer deserved that protection.

If it was a phone, it is likely a pretty expensive smartphone. Most cameras you would do this with are pretty cheap. And if the value is over $500 as some earlier posts mention, it raises the charge to grand theft. But either way it still is some form of robbery.

The various “authorities” are your/our betters. You are wrong if you think you have any rights other than shutting-up and paying your taxes.

Thanks, I fixed it. And for some reason, I already red flag at the NICS check. My purchases are always sent to “further review.” :(

And they wont tell you why, will they? We already have gun control much more strict than just 30 years ago, even in AZ.

It certainly is illegal to feed meters in SF -

http://www.sfmta.com/cms/penf/indxpkenf.htm

8. Obey parking meter time limits. The purpose of a parking meter time limit is to indicate the maximum time that any vehicle can remain on that parking space. Feeding parking meters is illegal. Vehicles that exceed the parking time limit of a parking meter can be cited regardless of whether the meter has been paid or not.

I believe it might be CA state nanny law too...

I would consider that a physical assault (by the officer) and respond in kind. He'd wake up about when the paramedics got there, and I would be pressing charges against him.

Hm, seems to me like the old "but I paid my protection, already", "the schedule's changed, you have to pay twice a week now" routine from the mafia...
