Cindy Brady on Her Gay Dad

As the latest star to speak out in favor of same-sex marriage, Susan Olsen, who played Cindy Brady on the iconic 1970s sitcom The Brady Bunch, said that if her on-screen dad Robert Reed had been allowed to form a relationship with another man, he would have been the best husband ever.
In a heartfelt open letter posted on her Facebook fan page last week during the Supreme Courts hearing on gay marriage, Olsen wrote, As a child, I was BLESSED to have another father figure in my life. So I really can honestly say, My Dad was Gay.
I can also say that being gay killed him, she added.
Reed died in 1992 at age 59 from colon cancer, with HIV listed as a significant contributing factor to his death. Following his death, cast members, including Florence Henderson, who played his wife on the show, and Barry Williams, who played Greg Brady, acknowledged that he was a closeted homosexual.
Olsen wrote in last Wednesdays post that because his homosexuality was so taboo, he could never make peace with himself.
He never allowed himself to have a genuine love. He was forever taunted by his own disdain for the natural inclinations that he was BORN WITH, she wrote.

Please God, let the Supreme Court know that you think its OK for gay people to marry.

So just how “closeted” could he have been when apparently everyone on the set knew?

I know Susan, personally. She is socially liberal, but she’s about as anti-B-HO and anti-Islamist as they come. She frequently and publicly argues against lib policies and is also very generous to her fans. Her “Fluff Art” is pretty amazing, too.

It says right here if Robert Reed starred in a show today featuring My Two Dads it wouldn't last one season.
These days it's anathema to be heterosexual. Still, Robert Reed would send viewers to the hills...fast...if he tried to sell a family with two men in the same parental bed..so to speak.
It's gettin' real old hearing windbags try to justify the 1% of queer relationships as though they are main stream.
I could not care less what people do in private. I have yet to have a militant heterosexual stick his face in mine and tell me people who question people not at all are bigots. If we could just have lesbians and homosexuals and wannabes leave me alone we might be on to something.
Sounds like there was more hope for the 'Gay' Dad character than for the Cindy Brady Character. At least the 'Gay Dad' understood that he had perverted tendencies, and he felt remorse over it. That is the first step. Recognize your sin. Be repulsed by it. Repent, and seek the Lord's help in overcoming it. I don't know if he ever got to the last step -- but you need to start with the recognition part first.
Yeah, sure. He was "BORN WITH" his (un)natural inclinations. Everyone is 'born' with some sort of evil tendencies: alcoholism, gambling, philandering, rape, theft, ... heck, the Bible says it better than I:

The Cindy Brady character does no one a favor by cheering them on to stay mired in sin.

From what I hear she turned into a bit of a slut, but for maybe the last year the show was on, Marcia turned into a real babe.
In what way is this news? How is it any more significant to our lives today than anything that happened on a third-rate sitcom 40 years ago? What does here comment or the article or the discussion bring out that everybody isn’t sick and tired of hearing already.

So being gay killed him, he died of anal cancer, and it’s jus tbecause he wasn’t allowed to get married. So we are led to believe that he would have been only with 1 person, and then only being “intimate” with 1 person unnaturally would have prevented him from getting anal cancer?
Sound right? Does anyone else see this doesn’t make sense?
Don’t forget that Reed was on one of those very early liberal shows called “The Defenders”. I think all their clients were victims of police brutality, racism, Southern rednecks, mean Christians etc.
It was no coincidence that he was on that show.
I remember SS said that Reed gave them all kinds of problems making the shows. Constantly critical of the writing etc.
Schwartz had to say to him more than once that they were not doing Shakespeare.
Reed had been married and had a daughter. I honestly think he sort of thought of the Brady kids as surrogate children. He would buy them gifts at Christmas etc.
In a way I felt sorry for him.

Latest “Star?” What exactly has she done in 30 years to qualify her to be a “Star?”
